Bitter truth about the Asuu Strike
Hello world, speaking on behalf of most nigerian students on the
issue which has kept us at home for a while now. This is closing up on
the third month since the strike commenced in our public universities
and not a word of sympathy from the Asuu. This strike as we know it is
definately not in the interest of the students anymore since the Asuu
has gone into recieving advice from the opposing party of the pdp
instead of facing the issues at hand which is making it possible for us
to return to the classroom, the bone of contention which has been on the
negotiation table for over two months has been the issue of earned
allowances which if carefully looked at comes down to the pocket of the
staff. And sadly the government of the federation has been reluctant
about the whole thing, not like the Fg “cant” pay the money, they
“wont”. And President Ebele Goodluck Jonathan is currently not in the
country which is like the weakest thing any president that cares about
the development of the nation would do, but since his children and
relatives are not affected he literally has nothing to lose. Dining and
attending summits with the president of the united states of america,
President Barrack Obama which should be least of his problems at this
point. Since the year 2000, the total times the Asuu has gone on strike
is literally enough for a student in Germany to graduate with a better
degree than any university in this country can offer, but we spend more
time going on strike than looking for better solutions. Even the
graduates of this country now find it difficult to complete their
clearance or even those who have completed theirs cant be called up for
their NYSC because of the on-going strike, i really dont blame any
individual who sends his/her children abroad for education or even our
neighbouring country (i.e ghana), our government should be ashamed and
believe me there is no reason to ever celebrate independence because
this country still needs colonial masters to guide us.This strike has
gone poltical but that is a fact that doesnt want to be admitted by any
of the parties. And since independence day is approaching, the
government decided to swallow their pride and return to the negotiating
table. The truth about the matter is that our president is going to
spend nothing less than N1b this independence day including the Jet fuel
for his travel in the private jet and all the celebrations and dinners
and yet to honour an agreement is taking him all year. the plea of most
nigerian students is that the issues be resolved and private and
government organisations stop making empty threats. And now SSANU, NASU
and NUT are threatening to go on strike like that is a solution to
anything. This country needs a better leader & better government,
There is money in Nigeria.
