28-year-old Man Dupes AIG Umar Manko Of N450,000
Swindling a police officer in the class of Assistant Inspector General of Police, AIG, Umar Manko might be unthinkable for many but not for Seun Bankole.
The 28-year old man has since been arrested and charged before Ejigbo Magistrate’s court for allegedly defrauding Manko in Lagos state, western Nigeria.
Manko who was the former Commissioner of Police, Lagos State before he was promoted and transferred, suffered his fate after engaging Bankole in a contract work. The incident happened at Ayisome estate, Isheri in Idimu where Manko has a property.
PM News gathered that Manko entrusted cable wires, bags of cement and some packets of tiles valued at N450,000 for his property to Bankole for ongoing construction work.
When Manko left from his base, Bankole allegedly carried away and sold everything at give away price and escaped. The work he was asked to do in the house was not also done to the disappointment of Manko.
When Manko returned to the place and discovered what Bankole did to him, he did not resort to self help as a senior police boss.
Rather, Manko went to the police at Area M command, Idimu and reported the matter. Bankole was arrested and charged to court with stealing under the Criminal Code.
He pleaded not guilty.
The presiding Magistrate, Mr A.A. Fashola granted Bankole bail in the sum of N50,000 with one surety in like sum.
The court ordered that the surety must show evidence of payment of tax for three years. The matter was adjourned till 19 November 2015 when Manko is expected to appear in court as witness.
Bankole was remanded in prison custody pending when he will perfect his bail condition.
