Benzema to remain in police custody over sex-tape blackmail case

The French international footballer Karim Benzema will remain in custody overnight after being questioned on Wednesday as part of an investigation into a blackmail case over a sex tape involving another player.

Benzema’s lawyer Sylvain Cormier told reporters that the Real Madrid forward would spend the night at a police station in Versailles.

Detectives detained the Real Madrid striker for questioning a fortnight after the former France and Liverpool striker Djibril Cissé was interviewed and released as part of the same investigation.

Benzema, 27, was summoned to the police station at Versailles shortly before 9am on Wednesday morning. Afterwards the public prosecutor’s office would only confirm that he was being held for questioning.

The affair centres on the alleged attempted blackmail of an international midfielder with what the French news agency AFP said was a sex tape recorded on a mobile phone.

L’Equipe said investigators wanted to establish whether a conversation between Benzema and the player during a meeting of the French national team at the beginning of October was simply friendly advice or part of the plot.

Three suspects said to be in the “entourage” of several footballers have been officially mis en examen – the French equivalent of being charged – since October.

The police investigation into the alleged blackmail attempt was opened at the end of July. Cissé was interviewed and immediately released from further inquiries.

Cissé protested his innocence on French television, saying he had nothing to do with the case. He later announced his retirement from the game.

Attempted blackmail carries a maximum five-year prison sentence in France.

On Wednesday, Benzema’s lawyer Sylvain Cormier told Le Parisien that the footballer was “ready to answer” any questions. He added that after Benzema’s name appeared in the press linked to the investigation, the player himself informed the investigating judge that he was available for questioning.

“It was therefore completely normal that he should respond to the summons. In fact, he would like to put an end to the controversy sparked by this affair in which he has played no part, as soon as possible,” Cormier said.

Benzema’s name apparently came to the attention of police investigating the alleged blackmail after he mentioned the sex tape during a gathering of the French national team at Clairefontaine before Les Bleus met Armenia and Denmark.

Afro-pop/Soul Diva, Waje has said she’s open to the idea of having plastic surgery on her breasts.

The singer made the revelation on this week’s episode of MTV Base ‘Word On The Street’ with VJ Stephanie while responding to a question from Twitter user @kazzang: “Would you ever consider plastic surgery?”

Waje responded in the affirmative but revealed that rather than breast enhancement surgery, she would like to have breast reduction surgery.

“As me and you are sitting down here, don’t you like that they are seeing your face? Do you want me to cover the screen?”the music diva jokingly remarked to an amused show hostess Stephanie, while clarifying why she would like to have breast reduction as against enlargement.

In the course of the show, Waje, single mother of a teenage girl, also talked about her relationship status and declared that her current relationship status is nobody’s business but hers.

Responding to a question from Twitter user @thirsttrapping, whether the singer currently dating anyone.

She responded: “The answer is I’m not sure it is their business.”

But after some pressure from Stephanie including the question, “What would the lie be?” she eventually conceded, “The lie would be no.”

The former Bayelsa State governor and All Progressives Congress, APC candidate in the forthcoming December gubernatorial election in the state, Timipre Sylvia has said the humongous variation of N5 billion demanded by the firm handling the controversial Yenagoa 18-storey five-star hotel project made him abandoned the project.
Silva disclosed this on Thursday during an interview on AIT’s Focus Nigeria programme, in response to allegations swirling around that he left many projects abandoned, especially the hotel project, while he held sway as governor between 2007 and 2011 in the oil-rich state.
The former governor said he inherited the hotel project started by late Diepreye Alamieyesiegha administration and abandoned by the succeeding Goodluck Jonathan as governor, who only erected two floors before he was elevated as vice-president.
He claimed that he had already paid out to the contractor, Gitto Construction, N6 billion out of initial N8 billion agreed as the total cost of the hotel project but put a stop to the whole idea when the contractor demanded another huge variation.
“That five-Star hotel project was at second floor when I came in as governor in 2007. It was a project started and abandoned by former governor, late Diepreye Alamieyesiegha. I came in and took that project from second to eighteenth floor. Now, the project was initially awarded for N8billion and I had already paid the contractor N6 billion at a point. Then the contractor came to me to ask for a variation of N5 billion because the external works were not included in the initial contract they signed,” Silva disclosed.
According to the former governor, he couldn’t justify any reason why an initial hotel project contract would not included external works.
The 18-storey building

“I told the contractor it will be too expensive a project because if we add N5billion variation to an already expensive project of N8billion initial contract value, that will amounted to N13billion and we haven’t included the furnishing of the hotel yet. And an 18-storey five-star hotel is not going to be easy to furnish. So by the time we put all these things together, it would probably have cost us about N20billion to build one hotel in Bayelsa. I thought it was really not a viable project and that’s why I withdrew from that project,” he said.
Sylva noted that there are a lot of contradictions in Bayelsa State that he really can’t understand or come to terms with. He said the former president Goodluck Jonathan claimed it was because he didn’t finish that project one of the reasons he moved against him (Sylva) from returning for a second term in 2011. The APC candidate revealed that he is fully aware of Jonathan’s commitment to Gitto, the contractor, which he wouldn’t want to delve into now.
The spiral-shaped 18-storey hotel has been dubbed “Tower Hotel of Controversies”. Gitto Construction, had abandoned the site before Sylva administration left office. It was at a time taken over by weeds and rodents until the incumbent government executed some palliative work at the site.
But Sylva said he has been watching from a very safe distance to see when Gov. Seriake Dickson was going to finish that project.
“At least, I took it from second floor to the 18th floor and as we speak, its still at 18th floor just the state I left it. And now he’s saying he wants to turn my “Transparency Building” to a hotel instead of finishing the five-star hotel,” Sylvia stated.
He said while during his tenure he received lesser allocations compared to Dickson’s, he still had many of his projects dotted everywhere in Bayelsa.
Sylvia accused Dickson of laying claims to projects started by him and other bodies including NDDC and Shell, while his (Dickson) signature project, the multi-billion naira fly-over in Yenagoa, was a grandiose project that will not benefit the people.
He pointed out that the yet to be completed fly-over was not neccesary as it was built in an area where there was no traffic gridlock and leads to a less busy Oxbow lake.
Speaking on his trial by the Economic and Financial Crime Commission, EFCC and the moral burden of standing for an election without clearing his name, Sylvia claimed he remains innocent as he has not been proven guilty by any court.
He said he was a victim of conspiracy led by the former president Jonathan and some people who were hell bent on discredited him.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) says Wednesday’s rejection by APC senators of the N5,000 monthly stipend, which they promised Nigerians during the electioneering, underscores the monumental hypocrisy of their party in getting to power by means of deceit and false promises to Nigerians.

PDP National Publicity Secretary, Chief Olisa Metuh in a statement on Thursday said that the development is a clear confirmation of the fact that the APC is a party of hypocrites, who never had the intentions of honouring any of their campaign promises.

“The PDP declares that it is absolutely obvious to all that the APC came to power riding on monumental lies and deceit in making promises they had no intentions to keep. All they wanted was to get into power and they achieved this with their lying tongues.

“Indeed, the unanimity displayed by the APC senators in rejecting the promised N5, 000 monthly welfare package, especially coming after their party and the Presidency had made futile efforts to distance themselves from it, further stresses the duplicitous spirit of the APC and its reprehensible insensitivity to the feelings and aspirations of Nigerians, especially the unsuspecting youths, women and the indigent, who they shamelessly swindled with false promises.

“From the foregoing therefore, Nigerians should not expect any sincere action from the President Muhammadu Buhari-led APC government on the other promises including monthly allowance to discharged but unemployed NYSC members, free meals and scholarship to school children, free houses, bringing the naira to the same value with the dollar.

“Our position remains that the APC has sufficiently confirmed to the world that they have a lot to learn on the leadership values of honesty, integrity, credibility and forthrightness.

“Finally, we invite Nigerians to note the powers amply vested on them by the constitution under a democracy as we urge them to stand on such powers and hold the APC and its government accountable for all their campaign promises.

British divorcee reveals how she was duped of £4,000 by a Nigerian online con artist

British divorcee Sheila has revealed how she was duped by an online con artist who targeted her through a reputable dating website. The divorcee in her late sixties told Channel 5 show Secrets Of The Scammers how she was contacted by a man claiming to be called Glen Almond and got caught up in a whirlwind romance.

She ended up giving away £4,000 before she discovered she was the victim of an elaborate scam based in Nigeria. Even to this day, Sheila has no idea who she was actually talking to or where her money went.

The couple then started planning their future together. Glen told Sheila his time in Afghanistan could be coming to an end in a matter of weeks and he would move to the UK to be with her. He said he planned to set up his own business there importing goods from the Far East.

"We were planning to walk off into the sunset hand-in-hand and live happily ever after."

Sheila said she didn't know anything about his business but 'I thought we were to be a husband and wife team and I would support him in any way I could.

"He told me our whole future was at stake if he didn't pay and we risked losing everything."

Desperate to help the man she loved, Sheila was able to sell some shares and delve into her savings to give £4,000 in total to Glen.

She also put her house on the market so they would have some money to buy a new place together. It was only thanks to sharing her excitement over the plan with a prospective buyer that she discovered she had been conned.

"As I was showing prospective buyers around my house I was so excited as Glen was due to be coming home tomorrow. I couldn't help telling them all about it and showed them Glen's picture on my laptop." she recalled.

The prospective buyer was a former soldier himself and was suspicious of Sheila's situation. After doing some research of his own, his fears were confirmed and he contacted Sheila and told her she had been duped.

"The moment I found out it was a fake profile and it wasn't for real I was emotionally devastated. My whole world fell apart. I contacted the police who found I was one of hundreds of victims of this professional, international scam and they traced it back to Nigeria. I have no idea to this day who I was corresponding with. Someone out there in the world was writing these emails and I have no idea who it was."

Alexis Conran, presenter of Secret Of The Scammers, was able to track down a reformed Nigerian con artist who was part of a team perating dating scams like that experienced by Sheila.

The remorseful scammer called Kingsley admitted that divorcees were deliberately targetted because they are often emotionally vulnerable and easy to manipulate.

"I mostly made money through romance scams, we would pretend to be interested in dating them and along the line we con them out of money using various methods." he said

"We are looking for someone who is divorced as there is always an emotional attachment, they feel some sort of emptiness." he added.

He said they would send the woman a picture of a handsome man they would 'fall for' and concoct a back story about their life. He said they often pretended to have a military background as this is attractive to women and gives them a plausible reason why they can't meet.

"Most women say they want security and someone with a good job. One of the best jobs we believe is in the military and with a military man you can say you are travelling. It is a game of emotions."

He added that you have to dedicate time to each 'mark' and he would only be in contact with a maximum of five women at a time so his lies didn't get confused.

"The more time you spend on them the more attached they become and then the sooner you will get money, sometimes it is only between one and three months," he said.

"If you want to stay organised I would limit it to between one and five, when you are lying to them you don't want to forget anything.'

Kingsley admitted he is now sorry for what he has done and is no longer working as a scammer and regrets duping women out of their life savings.

He said: 'A lot of people have been permanently damaged and some will not recover, if I had the chance to undo everything I would."

Increase Our Salaries, Reverse Jonathan’s Illegal Recruitments – FG Workers Tell Buhari

Public workers under the aegis of the Association of Senior Civil Servants of Nigeria have called on President Muhammadu Buhari to reverse all the alleged illegal recruitments conducted during the administration of ex-President Goodluck Jonathan.
Warning that they may go on strike over the matter, the union also demanded an increase in their salaries because of “the declining value of the naira.”
The workers alleged that over 500 persons loyals to Jonathan’s aides and cronies were injected into the civil service in the last days of the administration.
They were said to have been deployed to senior officers’ positions, starting from assistant directors upward.
In a statement issued on Wednesday after the National Executive Council meeting in Kaduna, President of ASCSN, Mr. Bobboi Bala Kaigama and Secretary-General, Mr. Alade Lawal, said upsurge in arbitrariness and bias in the way and manner the Federal Civil Service Commission carried out its oversight functions in the name of recruitment was becoming worrisome.
The statemenr said while cases of illegal recruitments into the service had continued to rise, the FCSC had allegedly destroyed the recruitment process into the civil service on the flimsy excuse of acting on the directive from higher quarters to grant waivers to some states.
He said, “Our take is that the commission cannot continue to hide under the guise of spurious waivers for some disadvantaged states to import and impose unqualified and incompetent persons into the federal public service over and above qualified serving officers.
“Cases abound in the service of some officers who were appointed to positions without the requisite qualifications, as provided for in the scheme of service, FCSC guidelines on appointment, promotion and discipline, public service rules and establishment circulars. Graduates with eight to 12 years post-graduation experience are being appointed as directors. It is as bad as that.
“We have made our case known to the commission and the Presidency on this vexed issue and we are still waiting for a reversal of all illegal recruitments made in the past five years in order to return sanity into the system. We make bold to say that if the reversal is not effected as being demanded, the ASCSN will have no alternative than to adopt other trade union measures to seek redress.”
On pay increase, ASCSN said that although no amount had been fixed, the organised labour movement, including the Trade Union Congress of Nigeria and the Nigeria Labour Congress, had set up two committees to determine the percentage.
Continuing, the group said: “What we collect as salaries can no longer take us to the bus stop, let alone take us home. We have endured for so long and it is time for the government to look into our direction.
“We are, therefore, calling on the Federal Government to enter into negotiation with labour with a view to creating a new salary regime that will be realistic enough to improve the quality of lives of workers and at the same time bridge the salary gap between the core civil service and other sub-sectors of the federal public service,”
The TUC, he said, had not resolved on the amount, but had been receiving submissions on it from its affiliated unions.
He said, “The TUC will collect theirs and the NLC will collect theirs. We will then come together and harmonise our positions and come up with one demand that we will present to the government because the salaries review are long overdue. It is supposed to be after five years; we are in the sixth year.”

Manchester City midfielder Yaya Toure says some African footballers need to show more desire to make it to the very top of the game. Toure, 30, is in the running to win the African Footballer of the Year award for a fifth time after the list of nominees was cut to a 10-man shortlist earlier this week.

The Ivory Coast international is also the only African on the shortlist for the FIFA Ballon d'Or award for the fourth year in a row.

"I admit that I see too many of them acting casually," he told France Football. "You'd say that they're not always very hungry. Not hungry enough, for my taste. They're not conscious enough of the effort required to get to the very top.

Toure said part of the problem was that players like himself, compatriot Didier Drogba, former Cameroon striker Samuel Eto'o, Ghanaian midfielder Michael Essien and ex-Nigeria attacker Jay-Jay Okocha had set the bar very high for those following them. But the Ivorian captain, who won the African Nations Cup with his country in January, believes some of the current generation could be lacking ambition.

"It's possible," he said. "They let themselves go too quickly sometimes. They're in their world. They think they've arrived -- the most beautiful, the strongest -- but they don't understand that there are other steps to climb to get to the top. Unfortunately a lot of them only see the good side in this job: easy money, girls, nights out, nice cars, nice clothes. They abandon the idea of catching the best too quickly. They don't always know how to suffer."

The former Barcelona player also believes nothing should stop players from targeting becoming the very best.

Pastor Chijioke of Breasts and Honey New International Church, who allegedly heals women by sucking their breasts was caught in the hot seat last week when a female radio DJ called him using a fake name to ask for spiritual guidance.

In the phone call, the DJ who works at Hero Radion, Nakuru, Kenya told the Pastor that her problem is that she can’t seem to get married. Every time she has a man, when things get serious between them, the men run away.

The pastor then tells her that she has the spirit of rejection and he has to suck it out from her breasts in order to get deliverance.

"The spirit lies in the breast of a lady... the more you suck the breast the more you get the fulfilling of the Lord."

The man’s congregation only has women and they are told not to wear bras to make sucking their breasts much easier.

The DJ then asked the pastor if he can tell her where in the bible it says that a pastor must suck a woman’s breasts to heal her.

The pastor refuses to answer and says,

"Don’t bring up the bible, you just come, we do this thing and then we finish."

Later in the conversation, the DJ busts the pastor and tells him her real name and that he is live on air.

The defensive pastor then got angry and denied his real name which he had given her before and says she should call him a man of God instead.

When asked why he is deceiving people, he replied saying she is stupid and she just called because she has been hearing women saying that he sucks breasts nicely.

FIFA Ranking: Super Eagles Rated The 12th Best Team In Africa (See Top 10)

Football governing body, FIFA, on Thursday morning published its latest ranking of National Teams.
Compared to their position the previous month, the Super Eagles of Nigeria have dropped seven places, and now occupy the 59th position, while in the continental ranking, they are in 12th place.
Ivory Coast, Algeria, Ghana, Cape Verde Islands and Senegal are the top five teams in Africa in that order.
Our rivals to book a ticket to the next African Nations Cup – Egypt, Tanzania and Chad – are placed 57th, 135th and 136th in the global ranking.
There were changes in the top five, with Belgium leading the way followed by Germany, Argentina, Portugal and Chile.

Real Madrid Star Benzema arrested over alleged sex tape blackmail of teammate

Real Madrid's Karim Benzema and one time Rihanna fling, has been arrested in connection with an alleged sex tape blackmail involving his France teammate Mathieu Valbuena. According reports, Benzema is suspected of plotting to extort money from Valbuena in exchange for withholding the sex tape involving Valbuena and a lover, from the public.

Part of the investigations around the case also saw former Liverpool striker Djibril Cisse taken into custody and later released.

According to media reports, Benzema mentioned the tape to Valbuena during a team meeting in October. Police are now attempting to find out if the conversation between the two players involved payment regarding the tape.

The prosecutor has placed Benzema under formal criminal investigation, with a source close to the case saying: "We can confirm that he is being questioned over his role in this affair".

Benzema can be held and questioned for up to 48 hours, but his lawyer, Sylvain Cormier, says the striker is relaxed as he did nothing wrong

"He came to respond to some questions. He is fine. He had nothing to do with this blackmail case. "He's pleased, even satisfied, that he can end this controversy once and for all".the lawyer said

Earlier this year, Karim Benzema was cleared of underage sex charges in France.

Nigerian-Trained Doctor Convicted Of Manslaughter By UK Court (Photos)

A Nigerian trained doctor Hadiza Bawa-Garba was on Wednesday found guilty of causing the death of a 6-year-old boy by gross negligence. She was accused of truly, exceptionally bad treatment which led to the death of Jack Adcock, a boy with Down's Syndrome and a known heart condition, in 2011.

The prosecution claimed the medical team at the hospital robbed Jack Adcock of his chance of survival when he was admitted to hospital. He was admitted suffering from vomiting and diarrhea and later developed sepsis. . .

A jury of 6 men and 6 women took 5 days to find Dr Bawa-Garba, 38, guilty of manslaughter by gross negligence by a majority verdict of 10-2. The prosecution said Jack died after a series of failings by medical staff, including Bawa- Garba's failure to discharge her duty as the responsible doctor.

Prosecutor Andrew Thomas QC said: "In short, she neglected her duty to care for Jack. It was not just a momentary lapse. Jack's care was neglected over a protracted period of time: her failings were compounded by a failure to go back and reassess Jack despite clear indications that his underlying condition was continuing. .

These were not just simple breaches of duty, but really serious breaches amounting to gross negligence." She failed to recognize that Jack was suffering from septic shock and when he collapsed, she momentarily stopped life-saving treatment after mistakenly believing he was under a "do not resuscitate" order. .

The error was picked up by a junior doctor after CPR was stopped for around a minute. Nottingham Crown Court heard that Bawa-Garba had confused Jack for another patient she had treated earlier in the day, in what prosecutor Mr Thomas described during his opening as a "remarkable error".

Bawa-Garba will be sentenced at a later date.......

APC senators reject motion for unemployed youths to be paid N5k monthly allowance

APC senators in the senate today voted against the motion for the payment of N5, 000 monthly allowance to unemployed youths in Nigeria. During today's plenary, Senator Philip Aduda PDP representing FCT, had presented the motion before the house for discussion but this was greeted with many nos from the senators. An attempt by the senate Minority leader, Godswill Akpabio, to second the motion was also shouted down.

After breaking his engagement with Lira Galore on Sunday, Rick Ross is said to have gotten his expensive engagement ring back from his ex-fiancee. On Monday, Lira posted a photo of herself still wearing the 11 carat $350k ring, a day after they broke up, igniting rumours that Rick must have left the ring for her.

It was later cleared to be an old photo, as Rick has the ring firmly in his possession. TMZ tells is they broke off the engagement at Rick's home and when Lira left she was not wearing the ring. We do not know the circumstances under which the ring left her finger for his hand.

In Georgia, an engagement ring is a "gift in contemplation of marriage", meaning if the couple doesn't get married, the guy gets it back.

Eddie Murphy, 54, is going to be a dad again. The Oscar-nominated actor and his girlfriend, Paige Butcher, 36, will welcome a new baby in May 2016. This will be the comedian's ninth child, his first with Butcher.

'He couldn't be happier. Eddie really is a family man and loves all of his children, so he's so excited about having another one on the way,' a source close to the entertainer exclusively told Daily Mail Online'

Singer, Katy Perry is the highest-earning non-boxer on Forbes 2015 Celebrity top 100 list, thanks mostly to her Prismatic World Tour. Perry grossed more than $2 million per city over the course of 126 shows 75 of them overseas while pulling in an astounding $20 per head in merchandise sales.
She also pads her coffers through deals with Coty, Claire's and Covergirl, and from a new Perry-themed mobile game due out soon which combined to earn her $135 million this year, tens of millions of dollars ahead of the rest of the women on the list.

There was pandemonium on Saturday and Sunday near the Trailer Park at Ebubu in Eleme Local Government Area of Rivers when scores of youth, women and children descended on a burrow pit; dug out and took home several tonnes of chicken condemned and buried by men of the Nigerian Customs.

The scavengers came with shovels, pans, basins and buckets to cart their loot home.

The Customs had on Friday dug out a canal there and buried thousands of cartons of frozen poultry they seized at the Onne Ports. Witnesses said the chicken were brought in six containers, emptied and buried before the customs party left.

But news soon spread abroad about the development and very early on Saturday, the human carrions came calling. With no security at the site, they dug and dug and opened up the pit.

Mr. Friday Lewa Goya, a local resident said:

“We saw scores of people in Eleme/Onne axis (just before trailer Park) carrying raffia bags full of exhumed ‘frozen’ chickens and turkey. The Nigerian Customs buried them yesterday after seizing them from the importers.

“Please if you live in Rivers state, especially in Onne area cascade this post. you might also want to stay off frozen poultry for a while.”
A few other residents however said there was no health hazard with the poultry. Mr. Lasbrey Iriaka said the poultry was confiscated not because it had expired or because it posed health hazard.

“It was seized from importers because it is contraband. The customs men even diverted one container themselves. So who is fooling who?” queried Iriaka.
