Biafra Is Dead,‘Kanu is selfish and should not be taken seriously’ – Says Chief Amadi

A former member, Hospital Management Board in Nasarawa State, Chief Davidson Okechekwu Amadi, has said that the actualisation of the Republic of Biafra was no longer feasible.

Amadi added that the leader of Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, who is leading the Biafra agitation is doing it for his selfish interest and should not be taken seriously.

Amadi, a native of Imo State but was born and brought up in the North told Daily Sun in an exclusive chat that when the chips were down, Kanu would run out of the country and leave the poor and innocent people that he is leading to suffer and die.

He, therefore, requested Igbo leaders to call the agitators to order in order to ensure peace across the country.

Amadi, a retired chief education officer with the then old Plateau State Government said the reason behind agitation was poverty and desire to et cheap popularity.

He urged the people of the south east to remember what Ojukwu did when he flew out of the country and allowed the helpless people to their faith, adding that Biafra died since 1970 when Col. Effiong handed over the region to then Gen. Gowon.

Amadi called on Nigerian leaders, at all levels, to entrench good governance which would serve the interest of the common man rather than embarking on a selfless mission capable of dividing the country.

According to him, “Nwazurike who started this struggle has amassed wealth for himself and has property scattered all over the world. Kanu is also looking for money and popularity. He lives in London while his brother lives in Germany but the innocent people they are leading are the poor ones in Nigeria”

A,adi also called on the acting EFCC chairman, Ibrahim Magu to resign his position immediately since he is not the only person that can do the job, saying that the DSS report indicting him was enough for him to resign his appointment.

Natives And Fulani Herdsmen Clash In Kaduna, 37 Killed

A clash between farmers in the Kajuru, Kajuru local government area of Kaduna state and Fulani herdsmen has led to the killing of at least 37 indigenes and farmers.

The village was reportedly attacked by the herders in a renewed clash between Sunday, July 16 and Monday, July 17. The report said while many died, scores villagers were also injured in the clash.

We learnt that the violence started when Kadara youths in the in the village attacked and reportedly killed a herdsman, who had been identified as one of those that had terrorized the communities for some time.

The killing of the herdsman reportedly prompted a reprisal attack from his colleagues, who allegedly stormed Ungwan Uka.

According to a resident of the affected village, the killed herdsman was caught harassing people and then lynched. He said even though the Fulani herdsmen in the area knew about the activities of the alleged bandit killed, they vowed to avenge his death.

The source reportedly said: “The Chief of Kajuru even called them and spoke with them, but we were surprised that in the early hours of Sunday, they came and carried out the attack.”

The reprisal initially led to the death of five youths said to be involved in the killing of the alleged bandit and this led to further clash between the Kadara youths and the Fulani settlers in the area.

The report quoted Salisu Mohammed, one of those who witnessed the attack as saying some security agents were drafted to the area for peace. However, once the security agents left, the violence resurfaced with at least 10 people killed and properties destroyed.

“These are the bodies that have been recovered. We do not know the actual number of casualties as our people are scattered all over running for dear life,” he said. According to him, those killed were buried in a mass grave.

The acting police public relations officer of the command, ASP Yakubu Sabo, said the force knows about a misunderstanding among some individuals in the community, which later led to a clash. He also said the clash was stopped by a combination of the police and army. According to him, the police is not able to confirm the number of casualties.

CBN Extends Support To Skye Bank

Nigeria's central bank has extended guarantees to Skye Bank for another year while it considers the bank's recapitalisation proposal, the mid-tier lender said in a statement.

The central bank shored up the Skye last year with a 100 billion naira ($328 million) capital injection, after sacking its top management for failing to meet minimum capital requirements. It then appointed a new management team.

The bank said it had recovered 60 billion naira in bad loans, closed some branches and sold four subsidiaries to boost capital in the past year.

Skye's problems started after it used short-term funds to buy local lender Mainstreet Bank in 2014 but failed to raise fresh cash. It was in talks with shareholders and investors last year to raise 30 billion naira but suspended the plans when weak oil prices hit capital markets and drove foreign investors away.

"The bank continues to require assistance from central bank and government as it repairs the damage inflicted on the institution in the past and charts a sustainable path forward for the bank," Skye bank said in a statement.

It said it had reached restructuring agreements with many of the chronic bad debtors resulting in improved payments and prospects of future recoveries, it said in a statement.

Skye shares rose more than 3 percent on Tuesday and were up 16 percent this year, after last year's 68 percent plunge.

The bank, which posted a pre-tax loss in 2015, said it had submitted its 2016 accounts for approval.

The central bank designated Skye as one of Nigeria's systemically important banks due to the size of total deposits it holds after it acquired Mainstreet Bank. This means it has to increase its capital ratio to 16 percent, the industry average.

The bank said it has appointed advisers to guide it on a recapitalisation process and that it has identified various options with proposals being considered by the central bank.

MASSOB Sets August As Deadline For Mass Return Of Igbos From North...DETAILS HERE

The Movement for the Actualization of the Sovereign State of Biafra(MASSOB) has declared August of 2017 as a date for the mass return of all Igbo indigenes living in the north.

The group said the declaration was to help Igbo indigenes beat the October 1st deadline given to them by the Arewa youths.

A press release sent to DAILYPOST by the group’s Director of Information, Comrade Samuel Edesonu stated that the decision was reached at its National Executive meeting which was presided by its leader, Comrade Uchenna Madu.

Edesonu said part of the reason it chose August was because it was a time when activities were rife in Igboland, including new yam festivals and the women’s August meeting, and that Ndigbo living in the north can take advantage of the activities to relocate their families back home.

It said, “In continuation of our earlier stand and position on the quit notice to the people of Biafra by Arewa people which will elapse on Oct 1st, MASSOB insists and beckon on Biafrans living in Arewa land to intensify all their efforts in relocating their families back home.

“MASSOB also mandates all married Igbo women living in Northern Nigeria to start speaking to their husbands on the dangers of staying in Arewa land which no longer guaranteed their safety. They should also intensify their pressures on their husbands concerning the Mass return in August.”

MASSOB said part of its strategy to ensure compliance was to get all Eze-Ndigbo in 19 Northern States to immediately commence the compilation of the names, residential addresses, villages and towns of all Igbo indigenes living in the respective northern cities where they lead.

It said MASSOB secret security, Biafra Intelligence Agency(BIA) are already in northern Nigeria monitoring the exercise, and that after the September 10th deadline for the compilation, MASSOB will embark on investigation of all the Eze Ndigbo in northern cities to ascertain their level of participation in the order.
