 The most dreaded militant group within the oil rich region of the Southern Nigeria,  Niger Delta Avengers have reportedly, invaded Nigeria Soldiers guarding one of the oil facilities owned by Shell Petroleum Development Company, had a chart with the force men and left them unharmed.

Eastern Radio interviewed an eyewitness who narrated how the incident took place on Friday last week.

"I've been waiting for the mainstream Nigerian media to report it but up till this moment it has not. I think this is the case because no oil facility was blown up"

"On Friday afternoon, a strike force of the Avengers arrived at the waterfront of Gbaraintoru community in Yenagoa LGA of Bayelsa State in three gun boats. The military men guarding Shell's liquefied and natural gas gathering plant on the outskirts of the community where some gas flaring takes place, began to retreat as they were clearly outnumbered but the Avengers called out to them, asking them not to flee because they meant them no harm".

"They dropped a message with the soldiers. They told them to inform Shell to shut down the plant at once. That they do not want to see that gas flare anymore. After which they zoomed off and were soon out of sight".

"Presently, the plant has been shot down by Shell and staff have been evacuated".

 Senator Ben Murray-Bruce, the Chairman, Senate Committee on Privatization, on Tuesday questioned the rationale behind Nigeria’s signing of rail deals with China, when rail tracks can be produced by the Ajaokuta Iron and Steel Company.

The Senator said this on Tuesday in Ajaokuta, Kogi State, when he led the Senate and House of Representatives Joint Committee on Privatization to Ajaokuta Iron and Steel Company.

“For 22 years they should have had a plan through the minister of national planning. The minister of national planning should be the one integrating the policies of any government in power at the particular time.”

“When you go through the detailed presentation and listen to arguments it is difficult to draw conclusions. When you don’t listen to the reasons why you are here in the first place?”

“That is why it was important for all of us to listen to the arguments and understand the reason why.

But let me say this, I am really touched by the presentation and the kind of leadership you have here.

What is really clear to me is that the management of Ajaokuta Steel plant has on board very patriotic Nigerians because you must never sell your soul for money.”

“First of all, you are a Nigerian, secondly you want to develop this beautiful country and create job opportunities for your people, and more importantly you want to create an environment where those of us in office will look back and say while I was there I did something for my people, but obviously this is not the case.”

The President of the Nigerian Baptist Convention (NBC), Rev. Supo Ayokunle, has defeated Elder Joseph Otubu in the just concluded Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) election as announced by the out-going president, Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor.

The results of the just concluded election was announced around 2:30pm on Tuesday in the Christian Ecumenical Centre, Abuja.

It is gathered that Ayokunle defeated Elder Joseph Otubu of the Motailatu Church Cherubim and Seraphim Movement (MCCSW) with 54 votes to 28 votes.

Pastor Oritsejafor, who stepped down as the president of the Christian Association, following the end of his tenure, announced the takeover of Rev. Ayokunle to a rousing applause at the Ecumenical Centre, Abuja.

The Federal Government, on Tuesday, disclosed why the detained leader of the Shi’ite Islamic sect, Sheikh Ibraheem Zakzaky, would not be released from detention.

In a 13-paragraphed counter-affidavit dated June 9, the FG said that Zakzaky was on December 14, 2015, taken into protective custody by the Department of State Services, DSS, following an intelligence report that he was going to be attacked and killed.

While responding to a N2 billion fundamental rights enforcement suit the detained Islamic leader filed through his lawyer, Mr. Femi Falana, SAN, the FG said it kept Zakzaky in detention to avoid the circumstance that made the Boko Haram sect to turned violent in 2009.

“It is common knowledge that it was after the extra-judicial killing of the former leader of the Boko Haram, Mohammed Yusuf, in police custody that the group which prior to that, had operated quietly just like the Islamic Movement of Nigeria members, metamorphosed into a full blown terrorist group plaguing the country and has killed thousands of people in various attacks.

“That up till this present time, despite the efforts of the Nigerian Army to quell the activities of this deadly group, the North Eastern part of Nigeria has been rendered unsafe as terrifying activities of Boko Haram in that area which involves killing, kidnapping, bombing, etc, has turned the indigenes of these communities into displaced persons who now live in camps around the country in the most deplorable conditions.

“That the 1st respondent believe that if the applicant, who is the leader of Islamic Movement of Nigeria, one of the largest Islamic groups in the country, is allowed to be killed as revealed in the security report, the country may be plunged into another Boko Haram crisis which was what necessitated the remand of the applicant in protective custody until it can be ascertained that he is no longer in such danger”.
The FG, also in a counter-affidavit deposed by one Ayodeji Ibitoye, an operative in the Legal Services Department of the DSS, told the court that in order to save the applicant’s life, he was evacuated to the medical facility of the Service.

It said the applicant was being attended to by “best doctors around”, saying the treatment has gulped “millions of naira at the expense of the state”.

“That the applicant is in protective custody to shield them from residents of Zaria, particularly their neighbours in Gyallesu who have vowed to avenge the oppression and agony the applicant and his followers subjected them to over the years.

“That members of the Nigeria Supreme council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA) has come to see the applicant”, FG added. Meantime, Justice Gabriel Kolawole has fixed July 23 to hear the substantive suit.

Orlando gunman Omar Mateen’s wife knew he was planning a mass shooting, went on location scouting trips, accompanied her husband to buy ammunition and never warned authorities, new reports claim.

The only thing Noor Zahi Salman did to prevent the worst gun massacre in US history was try to talk her husband out of it, FBI sources told NBC and ABC.

Salman, 30, admitted she was with Mateen, 29, when he bought his ammunition and holster.

And she drove him to Pulse nightclub and other target scenes – including Walt Disney World – ‘because he wanted to scope them out’.
In fact, they visited Disney World more than once to survey the area before Mateen opted for Pulse, CBS reported on air.

However, Salman never made any attempt to contact authorities about the impending terror attack.

According to the NBC report, authorities are ‘considering’ charges against Salman for not reporting her husband’s massacre plan. The FBI said she is cooperating fully with the investigation.

Others planned to be arrested include general secretary of CAN, Rev. Musa Asake and its director of national issues, Elder Sunday Oibe on trumped up charges by government forces who were sympathetic to certain aggrieved parties in the contest.

Already tension was mounting in CAN last night as plain-clothed security officers were said to be hunting some of the CAN leaders.

Also, delegates from the five different blocs of CAN had started arriving Abuja for the scheduled NEC meeting which will determine the next direction of the umbrella body of Christians.

According to the schedule, the two days (Tuesday and Wednesday) have been set aside to do, majorly, two things: the election of the next CAN president and the ratification of the new CAN constitution which had been completed by a committee set up by the National Advisory Council of CAN about two years ago.

Sources revealed last night that the plain-clothes security operatives were in possession of SMS and WhatsApp messages threatening to eliminate some of the CAN leaders.

But some key leaders in CAN were wondering why the police would be allowed to be used to arrest individuals in a purely spiritual exercise as the election of a CAN President.

Asake cried out last night that plans have reached advanced stage to conduct the election.

According to him, contrary to insinuations, CAN Secretariat has not been served any court summons that some people have gone to court to obtained an exparte order suspending the election.

“There are rumours all over the place but there are papers on your table”‘ he stated.

Asake said the next CAN President will be elected by a total of 101 voters: every bloc brings 10 delegates, all the state chairmen plus the Federal Capital (FCT) making 37, all the six zonal leaders, five national directors, the president, Vice President, the General Secretary and the Treasurer.

The only person to escape from his hiding place in an Orlando gay club bathroom has revealed how crazed gunman Omar Mateen laughed as he slaughtered his victims.

Norman Casiano, 26, was shot in the back four times by the shooter, but he managed to climb over his friends’ dead bodies to safety.

Just one day after the attack at the night club, Casiano has been released from hospital and has spoken of his terrifying ordeal.

‘I started crying and at that point a gentleman stumbles into the bathroom, collapses in front of the stall door and he’s bleeding everywhere and he’s begging to come inside the stall,’ he told Local 10 News.

But the man couldn’t fit underneath the door and the stall was so packed that they couldn’t get it open. Mateen entered and shot the man one last time.

‘The scary part was that he didn’t say anything, and what’s scarier than that when he shot the boy that was already shot, he laughed,’ an emotional Casiano said. ‘And as he’s laughing as he fires through the whole front of the stall. That’s when I got my first wound.’

They started pleading for their lives, but this only seemed to spur the gunman on, who put his gun over the top of the stall and sprayed bullets towards them before leaving the room.

Mateen killed as many as 30 people inside the bathroom, but Casiano crawled over his friend’s bodies at made it out with four gunshot wounds.

At least 15 people have been killed in two days in ongoing war between members of two criminal gangs, the Baggars Confraternity and Mafians, a version of the Klans confraternity in Calabar, according to CrossRiverWatch.

“The hostility between the Baggars and Mafians sources say, began last Tuesday afternoon along Palm street where a strike team of Mafians attacked and killed a member of the Baggars gang along Palm street with his skull carved open with a machete and slashes along his stomach and arms which infuriated his colleagues who later carried out a reprisal attack with at least two mafians gunned down in Goldie and Yellow Duke street axis of Calabar South on Wednesday,” CrossRiverWatch reports.

“The killings continued Thursday, as 3 more were gunned down at Mbukpa, with 2 happening close to the Mbukpa market, 1 at Umo Orok near New Airport road and Bedwell, all before noon while a source said one more was killed at an undisclosed.

“Another killing occurred later in the day along Palm Street by Mayne Avenue and 1 more was gunned down along Whitehouse street also known as Dan Archibong street, close to Nyong Edem street on Friday morning between 7:30 am and 8 am.

According to sources, some Baggars Thursday, converged at the CRUTECH pavilion to plan an attack on selected targets in school only for a combine team of the State Anti Robbery Squad (SARS) and Operation Skolombo in about 6 siren blaring vans chased them away following a distress call from the school security network as no fewer than 3 CRUTECH students have been lost to the ‘wars’.

“One other person was said to have been killed at Etta-Agbor by Akim. He was said to have been axed badly around the chest region and left to die. Shops in CRUTECH and around Ekpo Abasi, Yellow Duke, Atakpa, New Airport, Watt market, Bedwell, Egerton, Beach market, Calabar road, Mayne Avenue, Goldie and other major places in Calabar South now close earlier than usual to avert ‘eventualities’.

The fight according to reliable sources say the rivalry is for supremacy as to who controls ticketing for tricycles (keke) in major points in Calabar South”
