‘I need a cute lover to spend time with on Christmas’ - Imelda j

By     No comments:

I need a cute  boy friend that would  be ready to  spend quality time with me during this festive period. The  guy must be able to sweep me off my feet. Meanwhile, I can’t remember the last time I got a Christmas gift from someone beyond my family. It used to be mum, dad, brothers, sisters, aunt, uncles…buying gifts for me. This year, I need a true lover who will take me out for a serious date.
Read Imelda’s words:
I have been far away from romance, having been busy from January to December. I need to clear my head, relax and get set for the coming year. If you have what it takes to be my date, walk up to me. That’s all I want as a Christmas gift.
Every year, I travel to my state,Benue State to celebrate the Christmas with my family. But this year, due to my busy schedule I intend to celebrate my Christmas here in Lagos. I have plans to visit orphanages and thereafter end up at a private beach on the island.
My wish is to  celebrate the Christmas with the orphans and the homeless people at the IDP camp . This is a season of love, peace and sharing. I feel fulfilled each time I am able to put a smile on somebody’s face. Gladly, this is my best season of the year. I am willing to be a cheerful giver now than ever.

Judge excuses self from Nnamdi Kanu's Treason case

By     No comments:

Justice Ahmed Mohammed of the Federal High Court Abuja has excused himself from hearing the treason charges filed against Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra by the Federal Government. Justice Mohammed's decision comes after Nnamdi Kanu this morning objected to the judge hearing the six count charge filed against him by the Federal government.

Kanu during court hearing argued that the hearing will be an exercise in futility as officials of the Department of State Security will not obey any order in his favor.
“Thank you very much my lordship, but my objection is that I will not receive a fair trial before this court. The information I got is that I will not receive a fair trial before this court. I will not sacrifice the due process of law because of speedy court process over the principle of natural process on the altar of speedy release. In other words, I would rather remain in detention than subject myself to a trial that I know amounts to perversion of justice. Your lordship, previous court rulings have been given by courts of competent jurisdiction in this country, Nigeria which were not carried out by the DSS"he said
Counsel to the Federal government who is also the Federal Director of Prosecution, office of the Attorney General, Mohamed Diri, argued that based on section 396 (2) of the constitution, Kanu had no right to object to being tried by the court until after the plea is heard. However Diri's submission was overruled by the judge because according to him, Kanu had the right to reject the trial, “after all justice is rooted on confidence”.

“If any of the parties has no confidence in the court, he has the right to say so”, the judge said. He added that the prosecution would have done the same thing if they were in Kanu’s shoes. “Assuming it was the prosecution, if they had no confidence in the court of jurisdiction; would they not have done so? I hereby remit the case file to the honorable chief judge of this court to reassign it” the judge said.

Kanu is being tried on a six count charge which treason.

Buhari Apologies To Nigerians Over Fuel Scarcity, Pump Price To Remain At N87

By     No comments:

President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday apologised to Nigerians over the continued fuel scarcity being experienced across the country, blaming the long queues that have returned to fuel stations on the activities of speculators and those resistant to change.

Buhari further promised Nigerians that there would be no increase in the pump price of petrol.

He made the pledge following fears by Nigerians that the Federal Government may scrap fuel subsidy which will result in an increase in the cost of the premium motor spirit, popularly called petrol.

Buhari, while addressing a joint session of the National Assembly during the presentation of the 2016 budget of N6.08 trillion, said the pump price of petrol will remain at N87 “for now”.

“Indeed tough decisions must be made but this does not mean that we would increase the level of pains being felt by Nigerians,” he added.

A large church is now built over the cave, and people can go down inside the cave. The carpenters of Jesus' day were really stone cutters. Wood was not used as widely as it is today. So whenever you see a Christmas nativity scene with a wooden stable that's the "American" version, not the Biblical one.

Nicolas Cage returns stolen dinosaur skull he bought

By     No comments:

Hollywood actor Nicolas Cage has agreed to turn over a rare stolen dinosaur skull he bought for $276,000 to U.S. authorities so it can be returned to the Mongolian government.
The office of Preet Bharara, the U.S. attorney in Manhattan, filed a civil forfeiture complaint last week to take possession of the Tyrannosaurus bataar skull, which will be repatriated to Mongolia.
The lawsuit did not specifically name Cage as the owner, but Cage's publicist confirmed that the actor bought the skull in March 2007 from a Beverly Hills gallery, I.M. Chait.

The "National Treasure" actor is not accused of wrongdoing, and authorities said he voluntarily agreed to turn over the skull after learning of the circumstances.

Alex Schack, a publicist for Cage, said in an email that the actor received a certificate of authenticity from the gallery and was first contacted by U.S. authorities in July 2014, when the Department of Homeland Security informed him that the skull might have been stolen.

Following a determination by investigators that the skull in fact had been taken illegally from Mongolia, Cage agreed to hand it over, Schack said.

Cage outbid fellow movie star Leonardo DiCaprio for the skull, according to prior news reports.

The I.M. Chait gallery had previously purchased and sold an illegally smuggled dinosaur skeleton from convicted paleontologist Eric Prokopi, whom Bharara called a "one-man black market in prehistoric fossils."
The Chait gallery has not been accused of wrongdoing.

It was unclear whether the Nicolas Cage skull was specifically connected to Prokopi, who pleaded guilty in December 2012 to smuggling a Tyrannosaurus bataar skeleton out of Mongolia's Gobi desert and was later sentenced to three months in prison.

As part of his guilty plea, Prokopi helped prosecutors recover at least 17 other fossils.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Martin Bell, who prosecuted Prokopi, was also the lead government lawyer in the Cage case, according to court records.

Poor Performance Of APC Giving PDP Hope Of Return In 2019

By     No comments:

House of Representatives member, Hon. Beni Lar has said the unimpressive performances of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC government in the country has placed its opposition counterpart, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP on a vantage position to bounce back in the 2019 poll.
This was even as she decried the continued defection of her party members to the ruling party, saying it was necessary for party men to remain loyal to the principles and ideologies of their parties, no matter the challenges being faced.
She, however, opined that such should be expected, in a situation where a particular party stayed firmed in office for a period of 16 years, insisting that it was not unusual.

Speaking to newsmen, Wednesday, in Abuja, during the annual traditional Christmas Ball & Carol, organised by the The Redeemed Christian Church of God, City of David, Lar insisted that APC has not performed as expected, saying the development had had improved the rating of the 16 years of PDP-led administration high.

Lar said it was only through politicians’ commitment and loyalty to their parties that the country’s democracy can grow even as she admitted that the PDP was at the moment passing through some challenges.

“The party is definitely going through some challenges. But every party has a time when after it grows so big, it is bound to fall and rise up again.
“If you look at America, the Republicans stayed in power for eight years and then, the Democrats take it for another eight years and it resolves like that.
“So, there is nothing wrong or unusual about what is happening, it’s just that PDP stayed in power for 16 good years which is a good achievement. I think we should be proud of ourselves that we were able to stay that long. However, we will bounce back, there is no fear about that”, she stressed.
On whether she would defect to the APC, Lar said: “I rule it out completely. I am not joining any other party apart from the PDP. We are the founding fathers of PDP and so, we will stay there and make it work.”

She disclosed that due to poor students’ enrolment in science courses, the House of Representatives had mandated the ministries of education and science and technology to urgently develop a new curriculum to check the unimpressive enrolment of students in the field.

The lawmakers said they were deeply concerned that more people were graduating in Humanities and the Arts than the Sciences, adding that the trend must be reversed through development of a new curricular.

Lar said: “We have already discussed with the Ministry of Science and Technology on the need to encourage enrollment in sciences. The ministry would sit down with the Ministry of Education to propose a new curricular to encourage children from when they are very young to take an interest in Mathematics and Sciences, so that when they grow up, they can improve on research and development in the science field.

“This is because research and development is the key to any innovation and success in any country. We don’t have a strong research and development base in this country and we need to have that. Hopefully, we will strengthen that.”

According to her, Nigerian universities were not functioning in line which the aim for which they were established because they were not placing emphasis on research and development.

She suggested that Nigerian universities should strive to be like research institutes, where science and technology should be developed at that stage while breakthrough should also be done through these universities.

Lar said, “The global trend in the world now is the emergence of new trends in science and technology. Many countries, especially in Asia which are not endowed with any natural resource, are doing well technologically. Nigeria of course, has an abundance of natural resources-oil and gas, agriculture, good weather, climatic conditions and the rest.

“In Asia, they don’t have these but they use purely science and technology, research and development to transform the entire economy of the countries. We have seen that innovation is the way of the 21st century and because of the innovation, we have seen that for instance, Taiwan is the biggest manufacturer of computer chips in the world.
“The only way for this country to trully move forward is to embrace the emerging trend in science and technology. Nigeria is yet to appreciate this fully. I must say that in communication, we have done well; in banking, we have also done quite well. But we need to do more in agriculture, so we can be self sustaining.

“Nigeria has mass abundance of land, mass abundance of human resources of animals, poultry and crops. We have favourable climatic conditions, but we don’t produce enough food to feed this nation and 80 per cent of Nigerians live below the poverty line, that is unacceptable.”

Lar added: “So, we are collaborating with the various agencies, we have been having interractive sessions with stakeholders. In fact, we will finish next year, when each agency has shown us their capacity.

“We have even seen the capacity to build weapon here. So many agencies have capacity to even produce nuclear power here, but we have not utilised it. This year, I am happy to say that there would be an increase in the budget of Science and Technology, a very significant increase.”
