Emir Sanusi Marries 18-Year-Old Secretly

By     No comments:
Emir Sanusi

e Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, has finally tied the knot with his rumoured heartthrob, Sa’adatu Barkindo-Musdafa, the daughter of the Lamido of Adamawa, Muhammadu Barkindo-Musdafa.
The 18-year old becomes the Emir’s fourth wife. She only recently completed secondary school.
In addition to his first wife, Sadiya, who is the daughter of the late emir of Kano, Ado Bayero,
Mr. Sanusi has two other wives — Maryam and Rakiya.
The secret wedding was contracted in a low-keyed ceremony in the town of Yola on Friday.
Palace sources in Yola told PT that the Wedding Fatiha held inside the palace of the Lamido
minutes after the Jumma’at prayer.

Insiders say that the influential Emir only sent out invitation to some dignitaries across the country, as
Kano government officials sneaked into Yola for the wedding fatiha to avoid journalists.
The Kano State Governor, Abdullahi Ganduje, was said to have acted as the guardian for the groom,
while his Adamawa counterpart, Jibrilla Bindow, played the role of the bride’s guardian,
who gave her hands out in marriage to the monarch.
“His decision to take a new wife is in line with Islamic injunction. Islam allows having a maximum of
four wives for those who can treat all of them equally and provide for a large family,” said a top Kano state government official who travelled to Yola for the wedding.
A social commentator, Dan’Almajiri Ibrahim, argued that in ancient times, links between empires were
tightened by marriages among royals and nobles across boundaries.
“So, the engagement of the Adamawa princess to Emir Sanusi II may also be a move to deepen royal bond between Adamawa and Kano.
“You see, historically, both emirates have similar origins in the 19th Century Uthman Dan Fodio’s jihad.”
A reliable source say the young wife will not move in with the Emir immediately but after some time.

Don Jazzy Snubs D’banj On Stage

By     No comments:
news

D’banj mounted the stage to perform some of his hit songs to the delight of the audience, and halfway through, he said he was going to perform a song, ‘Feeling Good’ produced by Don Jazzy and featuring 2face that was leaked online before it could be properly released.

He beckoned on Don Jazzy to join him on stage to perform the song, but Jazzy remained glued to his seat with new Mavin signees, Reekado Banks, Korede Bello, and Dija.
It is obvious that the feud between these two best of friends is yet to be settled.
Even when 2face begged the duo to produce one more hit together, Don Jazzy remained resolute. In 2face’s words, ‘Don Jazzy and D’banj, abeg make una do one more song, just one…. I take God beg una.’
D’banj instantly responded with the words, “Sure! It’s going to happen,” while Don Jazzy still remained on his seat without even a smile.

This led many of the guests in attendance to insinuate that D’banj was more eager for a come-back than Don Jazzy is.

Nigeria Absent At UN Fundraising For Boko Haram Displaced People

The United Nations, Chad, Niger and Cameroon appealed on Friday for help for millions of people in the Lake Chad Basin region forced to flee the violence of Boko Haram and hit with repeated droughts and floods that have brought malnutrition and disease.

But while the radical Islamist militants operate out of Nigeria and U.N. aid chief Stephen O'Brien said that is where most people have been displaced by their attacks, Nigeria did not send anyone to the United Nations event..

U.S. and European Union diplomats said they were disappointed that Nigeria did not attend the event chaired by O'Brien on the sidelines of the U.N. General Assembly.

The Nigerian U.N. mission was not immediately available to comment on its absence.

A regional offensive by Nigeria, Niger, Chad and Cameroon earlier this year drove Boko Haram from much of the territory it held in northern Nigeria. But the militants have since struck back with a renewed wave of deadly raids and suicide bombings.

"These (displaced) families are being used as ammunition because it is the children that are used as bombers in markets and in train stations," said Chad's Foreign Minister Moussa Faki Mahamat. "Trade is virtually wiped out in this area."

Several U.N. diplomats at the event warned that the aid emergency in Lake Chad Basin risked being forgotten amid other humanitarian crises in Syria, Yemen and South Sudan.

Niger Prime Minister Brigi Rafini said the region was in the midst of a "genuine disaster."

"We need massive assistance from the international community," he said. "It is the population that has shared with these refugees and displaced people the little they have while they themselves are living in extremely vulnerable situations."

The United Nations said some 2.3 million people have been forced from their homes since May 2013, and a quarter of a million of them have fled from Nigeria into Cameroon, Chad and Niger, many walking hundreds of miles.

"Droughts and floods hit the region repeatedly. Malnutrition and disease outbreaks hover at emergency levels. Some 5.5 million people do not have enough to eat," O'Brien said. "The emergence of Boko Haram has pushed them over the edge."

O'Brien said U.N. appeals for 2015 to help those displaced people and refugees in Nigeria, Cameroon, Chad and Niger were all less than half-funded.

The United States on Friday announced $6.8 million (£4.48 million) in funding for regional aid efforts
