Don’t Blame The Devil, I Did It – Pastor Who Raped JSS2 Church Member (Photo)

The Police in Rivers State have paraded a pastor of a church in Port Harcourt, Rivers State capital, for allegedly raping a JSS 2 girl. The young girl, said to be a member of the pastor’s church, was allegedly raped for three consecutive days.

Opirite F. Amakiri, aged 50 years, a pastor of a Pentecostal Church, “Agape Baptist Church”, located along Aka Base in Rumuolumeni area of Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of the state, allegedly lured his victim into the room to help massage his waist for a cure from a protracted waist pain.

Amakiri allegedly claimed that his request was informed by divine revelation that if he could get a girl of between the ages of 12 and 18 years to massage the waist, the problem would be solved.

To assist her pastor, the elder sister to the victim, a young widow, who is also a member of the choir in the church, offered to give out her little sister for the job.

The pastor allegedly took undue advantage of the young girl To Molest her.

A father of four and husband to a medical official, the pastor confessed to the crime. Interestingly, instead of the usual practice of blaming such act on the devil, the pastor said, “count the devil out of this, he did not do anything, I did it by myself. But I now regret my actions. God decided to expose and chastise me.”

The Police said he would be charged to court the moment the doctor’s reports/medical results are out.

Narrating what happened to newsmen, the suspect said: “The reason I was arrested and being detained by the Police is because of a rape case I involved myself in. I am 50 years old and have been a Christian for 22 years. I am a pastor of Agape Baptist Church for seven years.

“The older sister to the girl I raped is a choir member of my church. It was after choir practice one Thursday that I informed the sister that I would like to visit her house for a serious discussion, and she obliged me.

The following day, I paid her the visit and requested that she allow her younger sister to massage my waist. I said that I have been having a terrible pain around my waist area for the past two years and every treatment, drugs and injection have failed.

“She then went and discussed with the younger sister who accepted to help me. So we had the first massage treatment that day while the older sister was around. Nothing happened between me and the little girl.

“On Saturday I called her to inform her that I was coming back for the treatment. I got there while she was about to leave for choir practice in the church. But while the massage was going on, I had an urge, so I had carnal knowledge of the girl. I have successfully raped her three times.

“It was the fourth time that she locked the gates against me, so I had to call her sister on her cell phone and she rushed to the house from her shop and began to interrogate the girl on why she did not want to massage my waist again. That was when she disclosed what has been happening between us.”

Asked if he was married, the suspect said he has a wife and four children, whose ages range between 6, 10, 12 and 14, adding that his wife is a health worker.

“I did not ask my wife to massage my waist because she was at her work place at Old Bakana, in Degema LGA, as at the time I requested the girl to massage me. My wife comes back to Port Harcourt only when she is on off duties.

“I felt that Deborah, being my spiritual daughter, would be of more help to me than my wife. That was why I went to her. I sincerely regret my actions. It is like the ground should open up and swallow me.

I did a very wrong thing. I pray to my church members to forgive me and never follow my footsteps. If I have made a mistake, I don’t advise any of my members to also make the same mistake, because Heaven is real and hell fire is also real.” He pleaded.

On why he sought for help for his waist pain problem from a young lady, in a church of over 200 congregation, he said: “Temptation can push anyone towards anybody, and when God wants to expose and chastise a person, anybody can be the victim.”

Narrating her ordeal, the little girl said: “I was in the house when the Pastor came and asked me to massage his waist.

On the first day I massaged him, nothing happened between us. But on the second day, while I was massaging him, he began to touch my breast and raped me.
I tried to escape, but he held me down and warned me never to tell anybody what he did to me. He has raped me three times.”

Addressing newsmen, the Spokesman of the state Police command, Ahmad Muhammad, a Deputy Superintendent of Police, said the suspect was arrested following a report from the victim’s family that “one Pastor Opirite Amakiri, of Agape Baptist Church in Aka road, in Rumuolumeni area of Port Harcourt was constantly raping a little girl that is less than 18 years. We quickly went after him and got him arrested.

“Following our investigations, it was discovered that the elder sister to the victim is a member of the Pastor’s Church.

According to her, the Pastor approached her and said that the Spirit of God revealed to him in the place of prayer that a young girl between the age bracket of 12 and 18 should massage his waist in order for his two-year waist pain to be healed.

“So, the victim’s sister, either for fear of the pastor or love for him, or even as an act of conspiracy, because she is mature and married, asked her underage sister that was living with her to help massage the Pastor.

“Each day the Pastor will sneak into the woman’s house when she must have left for her business to be doing the massaging with the girl.

According to the victim, except for the first massage, which was done when her sister was around, the rest of the massaging sessions ended in rape.

It was the last day that the girl, for whatever reason, tried to run away from the man by locking the gate when she heard the man was going to come.”

The victim’s elder sister, Deborah Prince Elegba, who corroborated the police statement, said she agreed to allow her younger sibling help massage the pastor because he claimed that the Holy Spirit commanded him to do it.

The father of the victim, Baate, also expressed anger over the incident, wondering how the Pastor of his family church could do such despicable thing to his daughter.

CBN Bans Use Of Dollars For Overseas Fees, Medical Trips

By     No comments:

According to Boason Omofaye, the head of business news at Channels television, who made this assertion this morning, overseas school fees and medical tourism have been placed on CBN’s foreign exchange prohibitive list.

By this directive, Nigerians who may need to go outside the country for education purpose or health care will have to get the foreign currency from the parallel market to carry out their engagements.

This reason for this new development could not be ascertained but it may not be unconnected to the weakening state of the Nigerian currency against the dollar on the parallel market.

Only yesterday, experts from all walks of life assembled at a business colloquium to debate if it is imperative to devaluate the naira.

The colloquium, facilitated by The Cable, an online newspaper, took place at the civic centre, Lagos.

Titled “Naira On Trial: To devaluate or Not?” had business tycoons, professionals, analysts, among others in attendance.

The keynote speakers took turns to share their insights on the topic focusing on the merits and demerits of devaluating Naira

Naira Falls To 325 On Dollar

By     No comments:

The naira hit a record low of 325 to the dollar at the parallel market on Thursday as desperate importers scrambled for dollars to meet their obligations overseas.

The local currency had closed at 318 against the greenback on Wednesday, after hitting 313.5 and 310 on Tuesday and Monday, respectively.“The dollar is falling because importers need forex to bring in their goods. They cannot keep on folding their arms because there is scarcity; they must keep buying; the only thing is that the quantity may reduce,” a forex dealer told our correspondent under condition of anonymity.

The CBN has left the official exchange rate unchanged at N197 to the dollar on its official interbank window.

“We see the naira falling further in coming days if the central bank fails to lift the dollar restriction,” the Acting President, Association of Bureau De Change Operators, Aminu Gwadabe, said.Tumbling global oil prices have battered Nigeria’s oil-dependent economy, with external reserves down to an 11-year low at $27.89bn on February 9, Reuters reported.

President Muhammadu Buhari is concerned that further depreciation will hurt poor Nigerians, but the CBN’s refusal to revise the pegged exchange rate has widened a chasm between official rate and the parallel market.Last month, the central bank halted dollar sales to the BDC operators and allowed commercial banks to accept dollar deposits, in a failed effort to shore up dwindling foreign reserves.

Around 90 per cent of the nation’s foreign exchange earnings come from crude oil exports, but mismanagement of the refineries means the country must also import expensive refined fuel. The Managing Director, Financial Derivatives Company Limited, Mr. Bismarck Rewane, said it was high time the CBN came up with a forex policy that would address the forex crisis confronting the nation.

In an economic note released on Thursday, Rewane said, “Nigerians are perplexed at the endless slide of their currency, which is now trading at N325/$, the lowest point ever.“This is happening even when the oil price is up at $31pb. The debate as whether to devalue the naira is not the real issue. The discourse should be whether we need an exchange rate policy or not. The absence of a policy is a recipe for economic anarchy and a race to the bottom.”

US Resumes Training Of Nigerian Troops For Anti-terror War

By     No comments:

Fourteen months after a U.S. army-led combat training for Nigerian soldiers was aborted, American authorities have announced a resumption of the programme.

The American Assistant Secretary of State for Africa, Linda Thomas-Greenfield, said, Tuesday, that the training would resume this February.
Speaking on U.S. strategy against Boko Haram at a meeting in Washington DC, Ms. Thomas-Greenfield said U.S. expects would “inaugurate the first round of training for an infantry battalion later this month.”

The resumed training program is part of a broad U.S. strategy against the terror group and, part of the new deal the Obama administration entered with President Muhammadu Buhari during his official trip to America last July.
“Our counter Boko Haram Strategy is an integrated, interagency effort to help Nigeria and its neighbors in their fight to degrade and ultimately to defeat Boko Haram”, said Ms. Thomas-Greenfield adding that the Obama administration engaged Mr. Buhari’s military leadership “to draw up a range of new and continued security assistance”.

“We have stepped up information-sharing efforts, we are jointly evaluating new efforts to counter improvised explosive devices, developing better tools to assess harm to civilians, and assess the potential for U.S. advisory assistance”, the Assistant Secretary of State said.

One of the reasons the Jonathan administration gave for terminating the previous U.S. training program in December 2014 was America’s reluctance to share real-time intelligence with the Nigerian military and refusal to sell Cobra helicopters to Nigeria.

Innoson Cars May Be Used As Official Cars For National Assembly

By     No comments:

Local car manufacturer, Innoson motors is set to meet with the leadership of the National Assembly, next week in a bid to boost the patronage of the company.

Spokesman for the company,Cornel Osigwe, Innoson Motors confirmed that a meeting has been set to hold next week between the leadership of the Senate, and Chairman of the company Innocent Chukwuma. This is part of the efforts to promote made in Nigeria products to rescue the economy.

Saraki hinted at this on Twitter on Friday, February 12, when he applauded the indigenous car manufacturer’s determination to improve on its services.
Saraki’s Special Assistant on New Media, Bamikole Omishore confirmed the Senate President’s office is in talks with the Chairman and management of the Nnewi based car manufacturer. He also confirmed that a meeting is scheduled to hold next week. This affirms a pledge Saraki made during the Aba trade fair in Abuja, to support Nigerian made products.

At the trade fair, Saraki promised the National Assembly would work on amending the Procurement Act by changing the word “may” to “shall” to ensure Nigerian products are given first priority over their foreign counterparts in the procurement process.

Osigwe revealed Innoson would try to get the National Assembly to acquire its cars as its official car.

“Government’s recognition of Innoson and the likes, will act as an endorsement for the brand.

“It can also boost patronage from Nigeria and other African countries,” he said.

He explained an auto-plan is being negotiated with certain banks in Nigeria, to help Nigerians purchase durable and brand new Innoson vehicles, instead of buying used ones from foreign countries.

Economy experts have lauded the move for the patronage on local car manufacturers and assemblies. They say increased focus on made in Nigeria goods, would help relieve the pressure on the Naira. This will in turn drive down exchange rates.
