Nigerian Players Lie About Their Age, That's Why I Hardly Invite Them" - Rohr

Nigeria's Super Eagles Coach, Gernot Rohr, has disclosed how dissatisfied he is with the way players in the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL), lie about their age. He further said that's why, he hardly invites any of them to the national team.

The Coach who said this in an interview with Brilla FM said;

“There is an existing problem with Nigeria based players. We cannot tell their real age.

“The door is always open for the best players. The Nigeria League players must prove themselves with the CHAN team first, because at the moment we have a winning team, so the home based players must prove they deserve a place in the team.”

In recent times, Goalkeeper Ikechukwu Ezenwa has been the only home-based player invited by Rohr, for the recent games against Algeria and Senegal.

WHO Offers Nigeria 500,000 Doses Of Meningitis C Vaccine

Nigeria has received 500,000 doses of meningitis C containing vaccine to combat the epidemic in the country, the WHO has said.

The doses were sent by the International Coordinating Group (ICG) on Vaccine Provision, an organisation that coordinates the provision of vaccine during outbreak emergencies.

Dr Wondimagegnehu Alemu, the WHO Country Representative to Nigeria, said this in a statement in Abuja on Friday.

He said the vaccines, funded by Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, have been administered in Zamfara and Katsina States where the disease was most endemic.

Alemu said an additional 820,000 doses of the meningitis C conjugate vaccine donated by the UK government to WHO was currently being sent to Nigeria.

He said in the last week, the ICG also sent 341,000 doses of the meningitis C-containing vaccine to Niger Republic.

He said this was because over 1,300 suspected cases of the disease had been found in the region particularly in districts that border with Nigeria and in the Niamey region of the country.

“A vaccination campaign is underway in Nigeria to contain an outbreak of meningitis C, a strain of meningitis which first emerged in the country in 2013.

“In 2013, the outbreak was initially limited to a few areas in Kebbi and Sokoto States. However, in 2015, more than 2,500 cases of the disease have been reported across 3 states in the country.

“Since the beginning of this year, the country has reported 4,637 suspected cases and 489 deaths across five states.

“WHO’s Country Office in Nigeria, including a number of field offices, have been supporting the government since the meningitis outbreak began.

“In addition to improving the care of the sick, we are focusing on ensuring accurate information about the spread of the outbreak is available as quickly as possible to help us make the most effective use of vaccines,” Alemu said.

He said that the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) with support from WHO, the US Centre for Disease Control (CDC), UNICEF and other partners were leading the response to the on-going outbreak.

He said these organisations were also carrying out intensified surveillance, capacity building for case management and risk communication.

Alemu said in addition to the use of vaccinations to prevent the transmission of meningitis, 20,000 vials of antibiotics have been sent by the ICG to treat people who had the disease in Nigeria.

He said most vaccines currently being used for meningitis C outbreaks in Africa were polysaccharide vaccines, adding that they were in short supply as they were being phased out in other parts of the world.

“The more effective and long-lasting conjugate vaccines, however, are not readily accessible for outbreak response in the region. The ICG global emergency stockpile currently has approximately 1.2 million doses of meningitis C-containing vaccines left.

“The very limited supply of vaccines to control outbreaks of meningitis C can affect our ability to control these epidemics.

“In the long term, the accelerated development of affordable and effective conjugate vaccines to cover all epidemic types of meningitis is a high priority for WHO and partners,” Alemu said.

He noted that in the past, Nigeria had suffered large-scale outbreaks of meningitis A stating that in 2009, such an outbreak in the country caused over 55, 000 cases with close to 2,500 deaths.

He, however, said that preventive mass vaccination campaigns supported by Gavi and partners have provided high and long-term protection against the bacteria.

Niger Records 33 Deaths On Meningitis, 116 Suspected Newly Infected Cases

Thirty-three people have died from the Cerebrol Spinal Meningitis (CSM) in Niger while 116 suspected case has been recorded, an official disclosed on Friday.

The Executive Director of the state Primary Health Care Development Agency (SPCDA), Dr Yahaya Na’uzo, said that nine persons died from the type C meningitis while the rest of the 24 died of the type A and B since the outbreak in the state.

He said that the disease was currently being contained in Magama, Agwara, Rijau, Kontagora Local government areas, while the suspected case in Suleja was a transit patient from Sokoto and that of Paiko was detected yesterday.

He explained that after the first record of death, the state embarked on sensitisation and awareness campaign to communities to educate the people on preventive measures.

“We now have fewer cases reported per day because communities have been sensitised to report to the nearest hospital as soon as they suspect any case of meningitis.

“People have been educated to quickly report to the nearest hospital once they experience symptoms such as fever, vomiting and stiffness of the neck.

“With this, more people have been coming and the situation has stabilised as no more high report of confirmed cases,” he said.

He said that vaccination would commence immediately the state receives the Type C meningitis vaccines from international communities.

He advised people to desist from self-medication and report to hospital when they notice any sign of CSM.

Nau’zo advised people to always leave windows and doors opened to ensure ventilation in their homes as well as washing of their hands to avoid the spread of the disease.

He said that health personnel had been deployed to rural areas to help contain the spread.

Tboss: "I Only Realized People Disliked Me When I Came Out Of BBNaija"

TBoss, former Big Brother Naija housemate, says she discovered that a lot of people dislike her, after leaving the Big Brother Naija house.

The second runner-up of the reality TV show made this statement in an interview with Cool FM.

“I had no idea, it was after I came out of the house that I knew how unliked I was. I think that hatred for me started from the house and it spilled from the house outside,” she said.

“I felt that some people didn’t like me in the house and I addressed that a few times. I came out and found out that many more people didn’t like me. I don’t seem to know why and care why.”

TBoss attributed her inability to correctly sing the Nigerian national anthem to her absence from the country.

“I have been out of the country for many years and in Romania or UK, we don’t sing the Nigerian national anthem. When she (Debie-Rise, a fellow housemate) asked me to sing it, I thought to myself, ‘I’ve got this’.

“I looked at Bisola’s face and she was laughing at me saying TBoss does not know that she has mixed it up, look at her face she is so innocent and I ignored her. I decided to sing it again and I mixed it up.

“I was furious at the situation because even at the audition I was asked to speak pidgin and I went mute, I couldn’t even speak pidgin and I told myself that I wouldn’t get into the house because I was not Nigerian enough and that was the show was about.”

TBoss sparked series of controversies while the show lasted, most notably for saying that she wasn’t keen on the N25million prize money of the Big Brother competition.

She also said the money will be finished before saying Jack and that many private jet owners were wooing her.

Donald Trump speaks after the US dropped the Massive Ordnance Air Bomb on Afghanistan

Donald Trump has spoken out after the US dropped the ''Mother of All Bombs' on Afghanistan.

The GBU-43/B Massive Ordnance Air Blast Bomb, is a 21,600 pound, GPS-guided munition that is America's most powerful non-nuclear bomb.
Almost 20 feet long and designed to burrow through 200 feet of earth and 60 feet of concrete before detonating, Asked specifically if he authorised the strike, Trump said:
“Everybody knows exactly what happened, so…and what I do is I authorise my military. We have the greatest military in the world and they’ve done a job as usual. So we have given them total authorisation, and that’s what they’re doing. And frankly that’s why they’ve been so successful lately.”

Military officials told CNN in 2003 that the MOAB was mainly conceived as a weapon employed for "psychological operations."

They said they hoped the MOAB would create such a huge blast that it would rattle Iraq troops and pressure them into surrendering or not even fighting.

Abuja Airpot Runway 96% Ready,To Be Re-opened Next Week Wednesday

All appears to be put in place for the reopening of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport (NAIA), Abuja,

The airport had been temporarily shut down on 9th of March, 2017, for six weeks of runway rehabilitation exercise.

The runway has been in use since the airport was built in 1982, and expired about 14 years ago.

After much debates, the rehabilitation exercise was awarded for the sum of N5.8 million and work began on the runway.

As at the 30th of March 2017, the Minister of State for Aviation, Hadi Sirika had said the airport was 57.5%% ready.

He tweeted:

While inspecting the final lap of work on the runway on Monday, The Minister of State for Aviation, Hadi Sirika, confirmed that the airport is 96% ready and assured everyone that the airport will be reopened on the 19th of April, 2017.

“This is runway 22 where the work terminates. Remember work started from the other end which is runway 04. You can see that we have finished asphalting and we are at 96 percent completion.” He said.

“The marking of the runway and lighting are going on simultaneously. This is three to four days work and we still have about eight days to go. We are happy and we are on course.” He added.

The minister also talked about a new technology used for the runway which will not retain rain water and another, where glass glide is put in the process of constructing the runway to reinforce it, to give it extra strength and prevent cracks.

“This is the first time any Nigerian runway is being treated with such material and that material is a 50 tonner.” He said.

At the moment, all Abuja-bound traffic is diverted to the recently upgraded Kaduna International Airport (KIA).

A lot of activities have also resumed ahead of next Wednesday reopening of the airport.

Local and foreign airlines have reopened sales and bookings on the Abuja route. Local airlines are already making bookings on the Lagos-Abuja, Sokoto-Abuja-Lagos, Abuja-Kaduna, Port Harcourt-Abuja amongst others for next week flights.

Kingsley Nwokoma, President of foreign airlines association in Nigeria, told reporters that foreign airlines have opened booking for tickets and cargo flights to Abuja.

“After the Minister of State, Aviation, Senator Sirika staked his job and seconded by the Minister of Information, Lai Mohammed, Žsome foreign airlines have started selling tickets to Abuja.”

“Everyone believes that the ministers will keep to their words. Even cargo booking has started for Abuja airport. That one is easier because it is not as sensitive as passenger service. Let us see how it plays.” He said.

“In a civilised country, if they give you a date people will work with that date. But since the minister has put his job on the line, we are confident that flights will start in Abuja after next week. He added.
