Tattoo-crazy man cuts off ears because he wants to look like his pet parrot (Graphic Photos)

By     No comments:

Ted Richards is so obsessed with his pet parrots Ellie, Teaka, Timneh, Jake and Bubi that he's had his face tattooed with their colourful feathers. The 56-year-old former factory worker who already has 110 tattoos, went further by removing his ears in an extreme act of mutilation made famous by artist Van Gough. Ted gave his severed ears to a mate who he believes "will appreciate them".

But according to Daily Star, he is not stopping there because he is now planning to find a surgeon prepared to turn his nose into a beak.
"I think it looks really great. I love it. It's the best thing that has happened to me.I am so happy it's unreal, I can't stop looking in the mirror. I've done it because I want to look like my parrots as much as possible. I've had my hair long for so many years my ears have been covered up. I have to admit I did used to get teased at school about my ears but that not the reason I've had it done."
Ted got his first tattoo in 1976 and has since built up a collection covering almost his entire body. He also has a peace sign branded on his left shoulder with a 750 degrees centigrade hot iron and two magnets implanted in his hands. He shares his home in Hartcliffe, Bristol with his four parrots, as well as South American green iguana Iggy, and pitbull terrier Candy.

He scours the internet looking for new procedures and says his facial transformation is a tribute to his "babies" - Ellie, a green winged macaw, and Teaka, a harlequin macaw. He is keeping tight-lipped about who carried out the six hour operation, but insists he is "happier than ever," and has even now got himself a girlfriend, Suzannah, 31. Since undergoing the operation Ted says the only issue he has is keeping his glasses in place - so he has had two small metal pins added to the side of his head.

The Gunners boss £8m-a-deal contract expires in 2017
Arsenal’s long-serving manager Arsene Wenger has dropped a very big hint that he will leave the club in January 2017. Naijaloaded reports.
He was speaking during the Club’s Annual General Meeting, as many Arsenal shareholders expressed their anger about a “lack of summer spending” and Arsenal’s “embarrassing” results in Europe, most recently, the stumble at home to Greek outfit Olympiacos.
The Frenchman’s contract expires at the end of next season and he didn’t speak like a man ready to extend it.
He said:
“I am resolute to commit absolutely until the last day of my contract to bring back big success to this club, and leave as well one day in a position where it can do even better when I leave.
“That is for me very important that I leave the club in the shape that the guy who comes after me can do better.
“The responsibility on my shoulders is much bigger. I know what it means for people. I know how sad people are when we don’t do well, I know how sad people are when we lose a game.”
Arsenal Fans! Should Wenger leave or extend his contract in 2017?

I Won’t Resign Even If I Don’t Defeat Boko Haram By December – Buhari

By     No comments:
muhammadu-buhari

President Muhammadu Buhari says he “will not resign” if he is unable to fulfill his promise of defeating Boko Haram by December.
Buhari, who was speaking in an exclusive interview with Mehdi Hasan on Al Jazeera English’s ‘Upfront’, said he would instead be “determined to stay on and fight it out”.
In the interview, which won’t be aired until Friday night, the president also reiterated his willingness to do a deal with Boko Haram to free the kidnapped Chibok girls on the condition that the true leaders of the sect are the ones to be dialogued with.
“We said it and we meant it,” he said. “They have to prove to us that they are alive, they are well, and then we can…negotiate with them.
We said it and we meant it. If we are satisfied that the girls are alive.” Asked whether he would offer financial payments, or a prisoner release, to Boko Haram in return for the girls, he refrained from ruling out either option, saying: “Well, it depends on the negotiations with the leadership of Boko Haram.”
Still, he expressed assurance that Boko Haram will be defeated by the end of 2015, saying: “As soon as the rainy season comes, which is by the end of the year… Boko Haram will virtually be out of their main stronghold and that will be the end of it…. Attacks by Boko Haram on townships, on military installations, will certainly stop.”
He also said he had not seen the Amnesty International report from June 2015, ‘Nigeria: Stars on their shoulders: Blood on their hands’, in which the human-rights group documented abuses, torture and unlawful killings by the Nigerian armed forces and urged the government to prosecute a group of officers and senior commanders.
“I haven’t received that report personally,” he said. “If I get those documents… I assure you that I will take action as Commander in Chief.”
Asked about his record as a military dictator in the mid-1980s, and the alleged human-rights abuses which occurred on his watch, Buhari said: “If there is any injustice that can be proved against me when I was there, I will gladly apologize.” However, he refused to concede that his ‘war against indiscipline’ in the 1980s featured any such “injustice”.

Iran’s Parliament Supports Nuclear Deal

By     No comments:

Iran’s parliament has approved a deal on its nuclear programme agreed with six world powers, state media say. The deal was passed with 161 votes in favour, 59 against and 13 abstentions, the official IRNA news agency said.
owever, parliament insisted that international inspectors would have only limited access to military sites. The agreement, struck in July, authorises the lifting of sanctions in return for Iran curbing sensitive nuclear activities.
Iran insists that its nuclear programme is entirely peaceful. The deal between Iran and the so-called P5+1 – the US, UK, France, China and Russia plus Germany – was reached after 20 months of negotiations.
But it has come in for criticism from hardliners in both the US and Iran. In September, Republicans in the US Congress tried to sink the deal by voting on a motion of disapproval. Democrats, however, gathered enough votes to block the motion and handed US President Barack Obama a political victory.

Iraq Liaises With Syria, Russia And Iran To Bomb ISIL

By     No comments:

An Iraqi official has confirmed that information from a new joint-intelligence gathering centre in Baghdad is being used to bomb the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) group.According to repoets by Aljazeera :

Iraqi MP Hakim al-Zamili, the head of the parliamentary and defence committee, told the Reuters news agency on Tuesday that Iraqi air force jets used the intelligence to target ameeting of mid-level ISIL commanders. Officials had initially claimed the attack targeted the leader of the group, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, but security officials later said he had not been present. The intelligence sharing alliance, which comprises Syria, Iran, and Russia, was announced last month. Iraqi sources said two Russian one-star generals were stationed at the centre.
Zamili, a leading Shia Muslim politician, said each of the four member countries has six members in the intelligence sharing and security cooperation cell, which holds meetings in Baghdad’s fortified “Green Zone” that once housed the headquarters of the US occupation. “We find it extremely useful,” the Iraqi official said. “The idea is to formalise the relationship with Iran, Russia and Syria. We wanted a full-blown military alliance.”
Tore Hamming, a researcher specialising in ISIL and other armed groups, said that intelligence sharing between Iraq, Syria, and Iran was not new, and questioned Russia’s impact in anti-ISIL operations. “It is simply impossible to imagine that Iran, Iraq and Syria haven’t been sharing information for long. It can be that increased cooperation can lead to more assassinations of [ISIL] top operatives, but this won’t necessarily have a huge impact in Iraq,” Hamming told Al Jazeera.

Brigadier General Ransome Kuti Sentenced To Six Months In Jail

By     No comments:

Brigadier General Enitan Ransome-Kuti, the son of the late human rights activist, Beko Ransome Kuti, has been sentenced to six months in prison for offenses committed during the war against Boko Haram.

He will be dismissed from the Army if the sentence pronounced on him by a military court in Abuja on Thursday is confirmed by the Nigerian Army.

Brigadier General Kuti has been at the center of controversy relating to his conduct as an officer. He was accused of failing to perform his military duties during the fight against Boko Haram which may have resulted in the militants’ capture of Baga, the center of a multinational force.

Included in the charges against him is that Brigadier General Kuti failed to account for the weapons and ammunitions under his supervision, rendering the army useless in the fight against Boko Haram.

The officer denied all the charges. During a long trial, his lawyer, Femi Falana, presented evidence to the court that the Nigerian army had simply failed to provide necessary equipment for the Brigadier General to perform his lawful duties.

Falana also presented several statements from officers and soldiers who repeatedly stated that the army was ill-equipped to fight Boko Haram, an assertion that was later affirmed by a former Chief of Defence Staff, Alex Badeh, shortly after he was fired from that position earlier this year.

Amaechi Splits Senate Panel

By     No comments:

The Senate seems to be finding ministerial nominee Rotimi Amaechi’s case a hard nut to crack.

For the umpteenth time, its Committee on Ethics, Privileges and Public Petitions could not sit to consider the petition against him, it was learnt yesterday.

But the panel chairman, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, said there was no cause for alarm, dismissing allegations of a crack in their rank.

The panel, sources said, has been unable to write its report because it could not form a quorum.

It has not been able to sit in the past three days despite being asked to hasten action on the petition by Senate President Bukola Saraki.

On Tuesday, Saraki mandated the committee to ensure that its report was ready for consideration on Wednesday.

He asked the committee to speed up after Anyanwu told the Senate that the report was not ready.

But the panel submitted its report on another nominee, Amina Mohammed, who was among the 18 cleared on Wednesday.

The panel could still not submit its report on Amaechi on Wednesday, leading to the dropping of the former Rivers State governor from the list of those screened.

The panel consequently scheduled a meeting for 2pm on Wednesday but only Anyanwu and Senator Obinna Ogba (Ebonyi Central) turned up.

The development has increased talks of a division among members.

Sources said there was a plot to sabotage Amaechi’s screening by some interested parties to orchestrate his withdrawal by President Muhammadu Buhari.

A member of the committee, who did not want his name mentioned, said: “It seems all is not well in our committee. Some of us are not happy about certain things. We cannot just go to a meeting for going sake. But what is happening is not for the media please, I beg you.”

Another member said: “No comment. I am not the spokesman of the committee. Go and meet the chairman if you want any information about the Ethics Committee.”

But Anyanwu, who is worried about the panel’s inability to submit its report, said he had carried every member along.

The Imo State-born lawmaker said he had demonstrated “a high level of openness and transparency in the affairs of the committee”.

He insisted that the committee is not facing a crisis.

There was no indication of when the committee will meet to write its report when the Senate adjourned plenary yesterday.

Saraki also did not mention the petition against Amaechi at the session.

When Amaechi appeared before the committee on October 12, the petition against him could not be considered because of his disclosure that it was a subject of litigation.

The Port Harcourt-based “The Integrity Group” petitioned the Senate asking that Amaechi should not be confirmed as a minister.

The group claimed that Amaechi mismanaged N70 billion of Rivers State funds when he was in office.

Amaechi has long dismissed the claim as part of the orchestrated campaign to smear him.

But the Chairman, Senate Ad-hoc Committee on Media and Public Affairs, Senator Dino Melaye, yesterday raised hope of Amaechi’s screening. He said: “ The committee has a one-line report that the matter is in court and that in compliance with our laid down rules and regulations, any case that is undergoing judicial remedy cannot be discussed.

So, we have distanced ourselves from it. The report will be presented on Tuesday by the grace of God.

“I assure Nigerians that former Governor Rotimi Amaechi by the grace of God, will be screened on Tuesday.”

According to him, the screening and confirmation of the remaining 18 ministerial nominees will hold on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Melaye said: “We are going to screen nine of them on Tuesday and the remaining nine on Wednesday.

“The confirmation of all the nominees will be taken on Wednesday.”

There is another petition against another nominee – Mrs Aisha Abubakar from Sokoto State.

Senator Ibrahim Gobir (Sokoto East) laid the petition against Mrs. Abubakar on the table for consideration.

The petitioner’s demanding her replacement with “a more competent person.”

The nominee, according to him, hails from the same local government with Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal. The Senate referred the petition to its Ethics Committee.

Also yesterday, Saraki wrote President Muhammadu Buhari on the Senate’s confirmation of 18 nominees who were on the list sent to the upper chamber on September 30.

In a letter sent through Senator Ita Enang, Senior Special Assistant to the President on legislative matters (Senate), Saraki told the President that the Senate found the 18 nominees worthy to be ministers as provided for in Section 147 (2) of the 1999 Constitution as amended.

The ministers-designate are Senator Udoma Udo Udoma, Dr. John Kayode Fayemi, Chief Audu Innocent Ogbeh, Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu, Dr. Osagie Ehanire, Lt. Gen. Abdulrahman Bello Danbazzau, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, Hajiya Amina Ibrahim Mohammed, Suleiman Adamu, Alhaji Ibrahim Usman Jibril, Mr. Babatunde Raji Fashola (SAN), Dr. Ibe Kachikwu, Abubakar Malami (SAN), Senator Chris Nwabueze Ngige, Senator Aishat Jummai Al-Hassan, Mr. Solomon Dalong, Mrs. Kemi Adeosun and Senator Hadi Sirika

Afghan Travellers Stranded After Taliban Blocks Highway

By     No comments:

Hundreds of cars, buses and trucks have been stuck between the Afghan cities of Kabul and Kandahar since the Taliban blocked the main highway south of the capital on Monday. The security forces have engaged in battles with fighters to reopen transport in the Nawrak area of Zabul province as the Taliban seeks to gain territory. Aljazeera has more:

Mohammed Arif with his wife and four children are among those stranded along the highway, the main link between the capital and the southern city of Kandahar. Arif’s wife and children have spent two night out in the open, sleeping on the side of the road.
“We are stuck here and don’t know until when,” Arif told Al Jazeera. “My children are hungry. We are in a desperate situation. We are planning on travelling to Ghazni on a different route, but it will be a dangerous path.” A Taliban commander who is currently on the highway is adamant on not clearing the area until the fighters are asked to do so by his newly appointed leader, Mullah Akhtar Mansoor.
“We’ve blocked the highway on orders of our Emir [Mullah Mansoor],” Khalid Mansoor, the commander, told Al Jazeera. “We will make sure to fight the enemies [foreign forces] out of our country and bring in the Islamic law. We’ve taken control of most of the areas.” Nearly two months after Taliban appointed Mullah Mansoor as its leader, the armed group has captured new territories in northern and eastern Afghanistan.
