Presidency reacts to allegations Dasuki gave armoured cars to former Presidents and Heads of State including Buhari

By     No comments:

Earlier today, there were reports that the former NSA Sambo Dasuki had alleged that he bought and gave bullet proof vehicles to all former heads of state and presidents of Nigeria, implying that President Buhari also received some items from the embattled NSA's office.

The presidency through the Special Assistant to the Presidency on Media and Publicity Femi Adesina has however reacted to the report, stating that President Buhari was statutorily entitled to any item he received from Dasuki.

This is a government of sadists, run by sadists and for sadists - FFK

By     No comments:

Former Aviation minister and former Spokesperson for the Goodluck Jonathan presidential campaignOlufemi Olu-Kayode took to Twitter this afternoon to react to some of the things happening in Naija currently, including the recent killing of Shiite members in Kaduna as well as the forceful arrest of former NIMASA Director General, Patrick Ziadeke Akpobolokemi yesterday December 14th. See more of his tweets after the cut ...

N.B: The person who paid for Jonathan's LIB page takeover was a friend of his who wanted to do it as his own contribution to his campaign. (Friends/associates of politicians did that a lot during the governorship and presidential election). It wasn't part of the official funds for Jonathan's campaign. They didn't care much about online campaign. Anyway, read FFK's tweets after the cut..quite scary!

US Hitting ISIS Harder Than Ever, Obama Says

The US is hitting so-called Islamic State (IS) harder than ever, President Barack Obama has said in a speech at the Pentagon. More air strikes were launched against the group in November than in any previous month, he said.
In recent weeks, the US-led coalition has killed a number of its leaders and attacked oil facilities it controlled. Mr Obama has been seeking to reassure the public following an attack in California that killed 14 people.
The two suspects were a radicalised Muslim couple who struck weeks after the killing of 130 people by Islamist gunmen in Paris. Around 9,000 air strikes had been launched against the group since the start of the campaign in the summer of 2014.
Noting that IS had lost 40% of the territory it once controlled in Iraq, Mr Obama said that the terror group had not had a single successful ground operation in either Syria or Iraq since the summer. He cautioned that the US and its partners faced “a very tough fight ahead”.

Saudi Arabia Elects First Female Politicians

By     No comments:

At least four women have won seats in Saudi Arabia’s municipal polls, the country’s first-ever elections open to female voters and candidates, local reports said. The female candidates were elected to three councils – two in Ihsaa governorate and one each in Tobouk and Mecca, as votes were still being counted on Sunday.
Salma bint Hizab al-Oteibi was elected to the council of Madrakah, a region in Mecca, the official SPA news agency reported, citing election commission president Osama al-Bar.  Saturday’s municipal poll, which was hailed by many as historic, saw a turnout of about 25 percent, Al Jazeera’s correspondent in Riyadh Saad al-Saadi reported.
The fact that this was only the third time that Saudi citizens voted in an election meant that there was still little experience with the electoral process, Saadi said. The first local election was in 2005, and the second in 2011. Women were excluded in both. Women are banned from driving and must cover themselves in public in the conservative kingdom, which was the world’s last country to give its women the right to vote.
The official results in the latest election were expected to be announced on Monday. More than 900 women ran for seats. They were up against nearly 6,000 men competing for places on 284 councils whose powers are restricted to local affairs including responsibility for streets, public gardens and rubbish collection.

FG to peg fuel price at N97 per litre

By     No comments:
Dr Emmanuel Ibe Kachikwu, NNPC MD and Minister of State, Petroleum Resources

Petrol price in Nigeria will go up in the new year going by official disclosure that over N1 trillion had already been spent on it in 2015.
A cash strapped Nigerian government appears not willing to continue the Santa Claus policy, anymore and will peg the price at N97 per litre.
The Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Ibe Kachikwu dropped this hint when he appeared before the Senate/House of Representatives joint committees on the Medium Term Expenditure Framework (MTEF).
He said subsidy expenditure was on the high side.
“The total subsidy figure for 2015 when taking along with the NNPC will be in excess of N1trillion. We can get this specifics but the point is largely that it does not involve NNPC because the agency takes its, off-cuff.
“We will work towards taking those figures off our budget in 2016. They are critical issues. The current pricing work we are doing had shown that there shouldn’t really be subsidy. The government doesn’t need to subsidy.
“There is energy around the removal of subsidy. Most Nigerians we talk to today, would say, that’s where to go. I have since left the dictionary of subsidy by going to price modulation which is a bit more technical. Price of refined products today is N87.
It was N97 before it was removed and we really have to go back to that because we don’t really have the finance to remove it.
“There are lots of safety barometer between the N87 and N97per litre regime between which government does not have to fund subsidy. Yet the prices would be fairly close to what it used to be today. That is the first mechanism we are going to work,” he said.
On the daily oil production target, he said, “from August this year we have been exceeding two million daily productions through stringent monitoring of our production by getting quick fixes to instances of pipelines breaking. The internal projection for our system next year is in excess of 2.4m which is coming from enhanced and increased production from NPDC field.”

Halima Abubakar – “I Pay Attention To Those Who Do Not Clap When I Win”

Speaking to Punch, Halima Abubakar said her peers don’t congratulate themselves whenever there is good news.
I am in an industry where people find it hard to congratulate you when there is good news. I often celebrate others and I am aware that not everyone can be like me. Most of my colleagues do not congratulate themselves whenever a feat has been achieved. I do not wait for people’s commendation because it would not fetch me money” Halima Abubakar told Punch.
Halima Abubakar also said she notices the actors who do not support her. “Some of my colleagues are capable of blocking every avenue of opportunity that comes my way. I pay attention to those who do not clap when I win because they are the ones I must avoid. These same people will invite you to their movie set and act as though they are your true friends.”
In October, Halima Abubakar nabbed an endorsement deal as the face of Tutti Water.

Turkey Says Its Patience With Russia ‘Has A Limit’

By     No comments:
8c26c063b1eb466b9076b6945c2201bc_18

Turkey’s foreign minister said Ankara’s patience with Russia “has a limit” after Moscow’s “exaggerated” reaction to a weekend naval incident between the two countries, an Italian newspaper reported on Monday. A Russian warship fired warning shots at a Turkish vessel in the Aegean Sea on Sunday to avoid a collision and summoned the Turkish military attache in Moscow over the incident. Aljazeera has more:
“Ours was only a fishing boat. It seems to me that the reaction of the Russian naval ship was exaggerated,” Mevlut Cavusoglu told the Italian daily Corriere della Sera in an interview.
The incident is likely to heighten tensions between the two nations, which are at odds over Syria and Turkey’s downing of a Russian fighterjet last month. “Russia and Turkey certainly have to re-establish the relations of trust that we have always had, but our patience has a limit,” the Turkish foreign minister said.
Cavusoglu said Russia had already “put itself in a ridiculous position” with accusations by President Vladimir Putin that Turkey had shot down the jet to protect oil supplies from the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL). “No one believed it,” he said. He also criticised Russia’s military intervention in Syria, saying it was aimed at propping up the regime of President Bashar al-Assad, not combating ISIL.

Saudi Arabia forms Islamic counterterrorism coalition

By     No comments:
King of Saudi Arabia, Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud

Saudi Arabia said Tuesday that 34 nations have agreed to form a new “Islamic military alliance” to fight terrorism with a joint operations center based in the kingdom’s capital, Riyadh.
The announcement published by the state-run Saudi Press Agency said the alliance will be Saudi-led and is being established because terrorism “should be fought by all means and collaboration should be made to eliminate it.”
The statement said Islam forbids “corruption and destruction in the world” and that terrorism constitutes “a serious violation of human dignity and rights, especially the right to life and the right to security.”
The new counterterrorism coalition includes nations with large and established armies such as Pakistan, Turkey and Egypt as well as war-torn countries with embattled militaries such as Libya and Yemen. African nations that have suffered terrorist attacks such as Mali, Chad, Somalia and Nigeria are also members.
Saudi Arabia’s regional rival, Shiite Iran, is not part of the coalition. Saudi Arabia and Iran support opposite sides of in the wars raging in Syria and Yemen. Saudi Arabia is currently leading a military intervention in Yemen against Shiite Houthi rebels and is part of the U.S.-led coalition bombing the Sunni extremist Islamic State group in Iraq and Syria.
At a rare news conference, Saudi Deputy Crown Prince and Defense Minister Mohammed bin Salman said the new Islamic military coalition will develop mechanisms for working with other countries and international bodies to support counterterrorism efforts. He said their efforts would not be limited to only countering the Islamic State group.
“Currently, every Muslim country is fighting terrorism individually … so coordinating efforts is very important,” he said.
He said the joint operations center will be established in Riyadh to “coordinate and support military operations to fight terrorism” across the Muslim world.
Smaller member-states included in the coalition are the archipelago of the Maldives and the island-nation of Bahrain. Other Gulf Arab countries such as Kuwait, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates are also in the coalition, though notably absent from the list is Saudi Arabia’s neighbor Oman. But Iraq and Syria whose forces are battling to regain territory taken by the Islamic State group and whose governments are allied with Iran are not in the coalition.
Benin, while it does not have a majority Muslim population, is also a member of this new counterterrorism coalition. All the group’s members are also part of the larger Organization of Islamic Cooperation, which is headquartered in Saudi Arabia.

A Saudi prince has described US businessman Donald Trump, a candidate for the Republican presidential nomination, as a “disgrace to America”. Prince Alwaleed bin Talal said on Twitter that Mr Trump should give up his presidential ambitions because he would never win.
It follows Mr Trump’s call for Muslims to be barred from entering the US for security reasons. Mr Trumptweeted back, calling the prince “dopey”.
“You are a disgrace not only to the GOP [Republican Party] but to all America,” Prince Alwaleed tweeted. “Withdraw from the US presidential race as you will never win.”
Mr Trump responded by accusing the prince of wanting to use what he called “daddy’s money” to control US politicians. That would not happen, Mr Trump said, when he got elected.

How PDP And APC Created New Biafran Agitations

By     No comments:
FILE PHOTO: Biafrans protesting in Port Harcourt, Rivers State capital

Unlike my father, my mother Esther Oligwe Ogbonnia hardly cares who wins or who loses in presidential politics so far there is peace. Not in 2015!
Full of excitement following Muhammadu Buhari’s victory, I placed a call to my mother in Nigeria, but she was not her usual cheerful self.
SKC (Me): Mama, why are you sounding strange?
Mother: Hmmm…I am okay but not very okay. There is trouble. The problem seems to be your friend—the Hausa man. They say the man has become the president again by force and plans to take away our Bible. They also say he is the same person who caused us harm during the war, and is going to replace all our people in government work with Hausa.
SKC: Who is saying all those things about Buhari? When did you become a politician?
Mother: Well, I am not a politician. And I may never have crossed River Niger or know how to count 1.2.3, but I can smell counterfeit from a distance. My son, the fear of that man is rearing up everywhere—in the church, our meetings, and the marketplace. Even our ‘who is who’ in the North have already packed back to Enugu . I pray this aura of doom will not be felt where you are in America …
SKC: Mama, please do not mind them. I am very happy to have supported the man. As I told you before, he is better than Jonathan by far. He will end corruption and provide jobs for our youths. Kidnapping and armed robbery will go away. Those saying bad things about Buhari are some of the same people who stole the money meant to complete Ugbo road. They are afraid he will put them in prison. That is why.
Mother: So the Buhari man is truly a good person? But did you hear that he locked up Jim Nwobodo and one good man from Onitsha area for no just cause? Do you know they also say that he killed one young boy from Udi Agbaja for nothing? Biko, how did you know the man?
SKC: No, I did not know Buhari before. However, when he was head of state, there was no corruption. Watch…things will change within few months. NEPA will provide light day and night… You will say, I told you so.
Mother: Well, I have heard you, my son. So, we should not worry? I am feeling better now, but I don’t know about our people. They see the man as danger…
Clearly, the general perception of Muhammadu Buhari in the East before the election was that of a jihadist, dictator, and a bigot—all roped in one, thanks to a montage of propaganda orchestrated by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). The then ruling party did everything humanly possible to cling on to power. And you can’t blame them. Having squandered our common wealth while at the helm, PDP had nothing on the ground for the Igbo masses and thus needed to sustain mass following by deceit.
Arrested Biafra Zionists activists

For example, one infantile lie drummed up since 2011 to prevent the restless Igbo youths from revolt had been that “Things will get better once President Goodluck Jonathan zones presidency to the Igbos after his tenure.” It was not surprising, therefore, that Buhari’s victory was readily seen as a coup d’état in the East, particularly among the jobless youths, who thence seem to have nowhere else to perch than clench their angst towards one form of Biafra or another.
The gist, if it is not already manifest, is that these new Biafrans, most of who are under the aegis of PDP Youth Wing, are the byproduct of the party’s gloomy narratives of Buhari. In fact, any careful review of the recent activities of Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), leaves no one in doubt that his rebellion was heightened by the defeat of Jonathan and PDP. And it does not take a genius to discern why prominent opposition leaders from the East have continued to tiptoe around the Biafran agitation even when it has widened.
For sure, the rallying cry for the current Biafran movement is the inexplicable marginalization of the Igbos. But we must not ignore one bitter truth: The last 16 years of democratic rule did not take place under Muhammadu Buhari or the All Progressives Congress (APC)—but squarely under PDP where every ethnic group, including the Igbos and their Southern neighbours were well represented.
Yet both President Buhari and APC have not helped matters. Upon assuming office, Buhari’s body language, including lopsided political appointments, began to appear as if the old Eastern Region was an illegal alien. To add salt to an open injury, the president shocked the democratic world by stoking a statement generally interpreted as a plot to marginalize the zones that gave him fewer votes. This gaffe was definitely beyond the pale and had deserved every damage control.
Sadly, instead of telling the president the simple truth, many APC leaders went as far lampooning the Igbos for expressing their right to choose. The ruling party conveniently brushed aside the fact that virtually all Nigerian presidential elections in history were influenced by ethnic sentiments, yet there is no record where a section of the country was denied its share of the national cake on the basis of voting pattern. The whole APC approach on political appointments triggered a nationwide outrage, with many groups charging the new government of ethnic chauvinism. According to a faction of the Movement for the Actualization of Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB), the development was a clear testament “that Buhari is not seeing Ndigbo as part of Nigeria .”
The presidency reluctantly addressed the dilemma, quipping that, “at the end of the exercise, no part of the country will be left feeling left out.” Unfortunately, recent events suggest otherwise. The much-awaited ministerial allocations have come and gone but failed to reflect the balance needed to allay the fear of Igbo marginalization.
Although it is true that Igbos, particularly Chibuike Amaechi, Kachikwu Ibe, and Godwin Emefiele, occupy powerful positions in the central government, the gesture is wallowed in mistrust. The crème of Igbo intelligentsia as well as leaders of the Biafran agitation perceive the motive as a postwar federal agenda to drive a wedge between the Igbos of the South East and their brothers and sisters of the South-South. Moreover, many are dismayed with the attempt by the Federal Government to isolate the history of Biafran movement solely to the Southeast. After all, not only does the Igbo territory extend beyond the Southeast, the die-hard leaders of the Biafran war included the natives of the South-South zone, such as Chukwuma Nzeogwu, Phillip Effiong, and Joe Achusia, to name a few.
This medley of unforced errors on the part of APC government did nothing but play into the prevailing PDP narratives—those very fears narrated by my mother when I had called from America after Buhari’s victory. Today, the opposition is gaily saying “I told you so.” For the restless Eastern youths, it was the perfect excuse to finally embrace the call for secession from Nigeria —with Nnamdi Kanu as the totemic leader. Kanu has since been arrested and denied bail by the federal authorities. And different pleas for his release have also been rebuffed, leading to mass protests and loss of property as well as innocent lives.
But the quagmire must not continue. Rather than brute force, there is the need for solution through diplomacy. First, President Buhari should go above the fray and order without further delay the release of Nnamdi Kanu. There is no doubt that Kanu’s rhetoric is hugely offensive, and deserves every condemnation, but keeping him behind bars for expressing his fundamental rights of self-determination does more harm than good. The matter is gradually gaining worldwide sympathy, and Nigeria ’s economy must not be exposed to a new wave of ethnic havoc on top of Boko Haram.
Second, the APC government ought to find ways to dialogue with the pro-Biafra groups and reassure them of a genuine desire to carry the Igbos along, with specific attention to youth employment. Such dialogue can help the agitators to realize that the real enemies include their own brothers, faceless politicians who carted away development funds in the East.
Third, but most ironic, if the war against corruption is a good omen, Buhari must be careful to avoid being mired in another form of Igbo marginalization. Even though the anti-corruption war has already visited high profile culprits in every other zone of the federation, notorious politicians in the Southeast are still acting as if Goodluck Jonathan still holds sway. It is time to double up and expose the political merchants who abetted ageless money-spinners, such as Enugu-Onitsha/Enugu-PH Expressways, 2nd River Niger Bridge, Dredging of River Niger, Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Sam Mbakwe International Cargo Airport, Constitutional Amendment exercise, the criminal demolition of Eastern Nigeria Secretariat in Enugu and, of course, various abandoned constituency projects littered across the area. The president may as well head further south to unmask the incubus choking other vital projects with huge employment opportunities, particularly Calabar and PH ports, PH International Airport, and the East-West Highway . Seeing is believing. Nothing can assuage the feelings of these youths more than prosecuting the crooked politicians who exploited the poor masses for selfish gains.
The view immediately above mirrors a topical goal of the current Biafran movement which, in its own words, strives to hold accountable “all looters, embezzlers, kidnappers, sponsors of terrorism, child traffickers, corrupt judges, crooked university lecturers, murderous Nigerian security forces and all thieving individuals masquerading as public officials who steal public funds thereby preventing developmental projects from impacting positively on the lives of the ordinary people.”
This very idea of the pro-Biafra group is hardly unpopular. In fact, one may think their statement was adapted word-for-word from the campaign book of President Muhammadu Buhari. Said differently, these youths and Buhari share common dreams for a corrupt free society, after all. And they need each other. Sustaining our hard-fought change demands broad participation across the breadth and depth of Nigeria .

Fanatic bodybuilder dies from cancer caused by misuse of steroids

By     No comments:

A fitness fanatic bodybuilder died as a ‘direct cause’ of taking steroids, an inquest heard.
Dean Wharmby’s misuse of anabolic steroids caused his death from liver cancer on July 19 this year, coroner Lisa Hashmi ruled.

The inquest was told fitness fan Dean, 39, of Brookland Street, from Rochdale’s Buersil area, first developed health problems in 2010, when multiple tumours were found in his liver, the Manchester Evening News reports.
The fitness enthusiast, who had been taking steroids for several years, later developed liver cancer with the drugs cited as the ‘direct cause’ of his death by Mrs Hashmi.

His partner Charlotte Rigby said that when she first met Dean eight years ago, she had suspicions he had used steroids because of his muscular build, but said when they got together in 2010, he was trying to stop taking the drugs.

She told the inquest:
“Being big was what everyone knew Dean for. “I didn’t know the ins and outs, but I knew a lot of people who were using it. It was the done thing because of the benefits people could see with their bodies.”
After Dean, who worked at Fitness First gym in the town’s Sandbrook Park, developed health problems Charlotte said he stopped taking steroids and embraced spiritual healing methods such as reiki and natural medicine.

Dean and Charlotte chronicled his battle with cancer on a Facebook page called ‘Dean’s Journey’ which attracted thousands of followers.

The inquest heard towards the end of his life he was taking 200 natural remedy tablets a day.
In July he was moved to Springhill Hospice, where he died. The inquest found that two falls he suffered at the hospice had no bearing on his death and Charlotte and Dean’s father, John Wharmby, paid tribute to the ‘excellent care’ he received at Springhill.

Mrs Hashmi warned of the risk of taking steroids.

Delivering a narrative verdict, she said: “I find on the balance of probabilities that in such a fit, health-conscious young man the most probable cause of his liver tumours was the misuse of anabolic steroids.

A final year Psychology student of the Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko, Olumuyiwa Ewarawon, has been allegedly murdered by a suspected para-military organization operating in the University. 2 of the suspects have reportedly been arrested.

It was gathered that the deceased, who was the only son of his mom, lived in a private hostel outside the school campus and was reportedly attacked by suspected cadet officers.
The deceased family is asking for justice for their son.

The family in a petition to the Ondo State Commissioner of Police, Mike Ogbodu, filed by the counsel to the deceased’s father, Chief Goodluck Ibitoye Ewarawon, alleged that Olumuyiwa was attacked in his room at Shanghai Hostel in Akungba by the armed gang of seven men who claimed that they were student cadet officers.

“The armed assailants broke into Olumuyiwa’s room while he was asleep and attacked him, thereafter, brutalized, bruised and inflicted on him fatal injuries from which he fell into coma.
“The gang dumped Olumuyiwa’s body at the General Hospital, Iwarooka Akoko before good samaritans brought the incident to the attention of the family three days later.”
According to the family, Olumuyiwa was in a coma when he was taken from the hospital to Trauma Centre Ondo which instantly referred the case to Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital, Ile-Ife.
The family said he never came out of coma and died later in the hospital.
They urged the Commissioner of Police to use his good office to ensure a full investigation of the murder of Olumuyiwa by the suspected Cadet Officers.

Listen to Muslim leader Zakzaky's phone call with Iran during deadly Nigerian military siege

By     No comments:

This was sent in by Dr. Perry Brimah. This phone call allegedly was made to the Zaria Islamic Movement leader, Sheikh Zakzaky during the 13th-14th December 2015 military siege on his residence in Zaria. The Nigerian army claimed the faithfuls attempted to kill the Chief of Army Staff, Buratai, a claim the Muslim leader denies. Listen to it after the cut...

The call starts from the 4.30 mark. Listen below...

The Islamic Movement claims the attacks have been unprovoked. As many as 100 members were killed by the Nigerian military who did not sustain any injury.

The attacks took place at the movement Husainiyah Baqiyyatullah spiritual house and at the residence of the Sheikh. His wife and son were killed as well as his deputy. It is the second time the faithfuls have come under attack by the Nigerian military recently.

Last year August under the Goodlluck Jonathan administration, 31 faithfuls were killed in similar unprovoked attacks as well as three sons of the Sheikh. The army statement in regards to the latest attack read that the group who hold million man peaceful processions, constitute a "highway nuisance," however such statements are odd coming from the military at this time, as dealing with such 'disturbance' is a duty of the Nigerian police primarily and would not warrant for the massacre of the faithfuls.

Sheikh Zakzaky is reported to have been found by the military, hiding in a 'bunker' after sustaining a gun-shot injury. He and over 100 faithfuls have so far been detained.
