FG to re-introduce Toll at Federal roads- Fashola

By     No comments:
Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola has hinted that the Federal government will be re-introducing tolls at Federal roads in Nigeria. Fashola says the money generated from the tolls will be used for the maintenance of the roads. He said this during his first news conference tagged ‘Setting the Agenda for Delivering Change’ in Abuja today December 8th...

“Maintenance would be our watchword. We are setting up a robust maintenance regime to keep our highways in good shape. This shows that tolling is necessary to support government funding. So, it will not be too much if we ask every road user to pay little to augment government funding for road maintence. It is eminent commonsense for us to find that money. We will use technology; so if we don’t pay cash, you will pay by tokens or tickets and the money is accountable and it will go to the right place. We will manage that fund properly and we will hold those who we put there to account.” he said

'We will destroy ISIS, and any group that tries to destroy us' Obama

By     No comments:

President Barack Obama on Sunday vowed to "destroy" the ISIL group in a relentless, strong and smart campaign that is in tune with the nation's values. His speech meant to reassure a large number of Americans who feel the president's stance on terrorism is too weak, didn't announce an overhaul of a terrorism fight policy that critics have branded insufficient to take on the evolving threat of terrorism globally.

Obama, said last week's mass shooting in San Bernardino, California, was a terrorist attack by a couple who had gone down the "dark path of radicalization" and embraced a "perverted" form of Islam.
"This was an act of terrorism designed to kill innocent people," Obama said. "Here's what I want you to know. The threat from terrorism is real, but we will overcome it. We will destroy ISIL and any other organization that tries to harm us. Our success won't depend on tough talk, or abandoning our values or giving into fear. That's what groups like ISIL are hoping for. Instead, we will prevail by being strong and smart, resilient and relentless. And by drawing upon every aspect of American power. We should not be drawn once more into a long and costly ground war in Iraq or Syria. That's what groups like ISIL want. They know they can't defeat us on the battlefield. ISIL fighters were part of the insurgency that we faced in Iraq. But they also know that if we occupy foreign lands, they can maintain insurgencies for years, killing thousands of our troops and draining our resources, and using our presence to draw new recruits," Obama said.

Everything Under Buhari Is “Inconclusive” – Fayose

By     No comments:
ayo-fayose-buhari

Ayodele Fayose, governor of Ekiti state, has raised the alarm that Nigeria under President Mohammadu Buhari is fast becoming a “shame” while elections under his watch are ending up “inconclusive”.
According to Fayose, the failed attempt by the All Progressives Congress (APC) to manipulate the Bayelsa state governorship election is a “clear invitation to anarchy”.
The governor also warned of the “plot” of Buhari’s government to “destroy democracy in the country”, saying it was shameful that the two elections conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) “under Buhari’s kinsman, Prof Mahmood Yakubu”, were inconclusive.
“If in three days, INEC could not conduct credible election in Bayelsa State of just eight local governments, one wonders what will happen during the general elections in 2019? Fayose said through Lere Olayinka, his special assistant on public communications and new media.
“Everything under Buhari was becoming inconclusive. The simple reality is that INEC under this Buhari’s kinsman, Prof Yakubu, who is fast becoming the classical example of incompetence, cannot guarantee free and fair elections in this country.”
He saluted the courage of the people of Bayelsa state, describing them as “worthy heroes of democracy that stood their ground against agents of darkness that were prepared to short-change them by imposing a governor they do not want on them”.
He also congratulated the Seriake Dickson, governor Bayelsa state, “for having the people of Bayelsa behind him”.
“The people of Bayelsa have shown that their power is more than that of the Abuja political oppressors,” he said.
“Now that they have failed in their bid to use one local government to rig themselves to power, they will surely go back to their evil drawing board to plan fresh assaults.
“Therefore, Bayelsa people must henceforth sleep with their two eyes open because the APC thieves come not only to steal, but to kill and that can be seen in the way and manner they murdered over 20 people just because they wanted power at all cost.”
While warning on the consequences of destroying the legacy of free, fair and credible electoral process bequeathed on Nigeria by Goodluck Jonathan, Fayose said: “Nigerians, especially we in Ekiti State, are already taking a cue from the Kogi and Bayelsa States’
experience and are getting prepared for future elections.”

PDP Would Have Killed Nigeria If APC Didn’t Take Over – Buhari

By     No comments:

President Mohammadu Buhari and other eminent Nigerians, Monday, challenged the PDP and other opposition parties in the country to learn from the tenacity and rough path to glory of the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) in order to advance the democratic space and good governance in the country.
They threw the challenge at the public presentation ceremony of the book: From Opposition to Governing Party: Nigeria’s APC Merger Story, written by the Minister of Science and Technology, Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu, at Yar’ Adua’s Centre, Abuja.
In his remarks, President Mohammadu Buhari, described the book as a compendium of political history of APC’s success story, worthy of emulation by every opposition party.
The President, who commended Onu for authoring the book, traced the history of APC’s merger, which said was a very torteous journey for all the merger forces that gave birth to the ruling party.
He said the book would not only be an asset to the economic development of the country but also politically. He stressed the need for every politician and parties to learn for the book what it takes to rise from opposition to ruling party, describing it as an intellectual exercise.
‘‘Onu has not only contributed economically by writing this book but politically. It is a product of intellectual and political work. We are inclined not to learn from the history but this book will serve as a compendium of our checkered political history for everyone to learn from our political past and move the nation forward.
‘‘Without the emergence of APC, PDP would have killed Nigeria. That is why we stood our ground tenaciously in the midst of failures and difficulties to form APC. After I lost three times in the presidential election I decided not to contest again but people came and persuaded me to run again, saying that, ‘‘I no longer belong to myself but to them and urged me to accept their request.’’
He however, challenged the Minister to use his wealth of experience and intellect to transform the nation through his ministry by producing creative and innovative scientists.

‘‘As a scientist, I can trace my relationship with Ogbonnaya Onu to 2005, during the early days of the formation of APC merger. I throw the challenge to him and I would want to see how many world class scientist he will produce for Nigeria,’’ he said.
