Buhari Shocks Ministers With with poor salaries and austere allowances.

By     No comments:

Barely three weeks in office, President Muhammadu Buhari has shocked Ministers with poor salaries and austere allowances.

He has also imposed dos and don’ts on the ministers including travel restrictions.

Most Ministers were said to be embarrassed by the perks of office accruable to them in office.

The only leverage the Ministers will enjoy is the privilege of flying in a Business Class on trips.

These conditions of service for Ministers were contained in a letter given to them during the week by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Engr. Babachir David Lawal.

The letter said: “I am pleased to inform you that the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR, has appointed you as a Minister in the Government of the Federal Republic of Nigeria

“The appointment takes effect from 11th November, 2015 under the following Terms and Conditions of Service as contained in “Certain Political, Public and Judicial Office Holders(Salaries and Allowances, etc) (Amendment ) Act 2008.”

“I am to add that your tenure terminates at the end of this Administration unless otherwise decided by Mr. President. Please accept my heartiest congratulations and best wishes on your appointment.”

The SGF’s letter gave the details of the perks which the ministers will enjoy in office as long as they last in the Federal Executive Council (FEC).

While the substantive minister will earn N2, 026, 400 Annual Basic Salary($8,514.285), Minister of State is to get N1.8million($7,563.025) per annum.

Other highlights of the conditions include: Estacode Allowance($900 per diem); Duty Tour Allowance(N35,000); Utilities Allowance(Telephone/ Electricity/ Water)–30% of Annual Basic Salary (N607,920); Domestic Staff Allowance(75% -((N1,519,800) of Annual Basic Salary; Medical Facilities (in accordance with NHIS Policy); Special Assistant (To be provided in kind); Security (To be provided in kind); Air Travel (By Business Class); Newspaper Allowance (15% of Annual Basic Salary-N303,960).

The letter said: “As a Political Office Holder, you must obtain permission from Mr. President before you travel out of Abuja. If the trip is official, Ministers are entitled to a Duty Tour Allowance of N35,000 per diem. However, all private journeys will attract no Allowance.

“Severance Allowance of 300 %of Annual Basic Salary payable after full tenure of office with government. The allowance will be pro-rated after a minimum of two years tenure.

It added: “200 % of Annual Basic Salary (N4,052,800) will be paid to you to enable you to acquire accommodation of your choice in line with monetization policy.

“Furniture Allowance. 300 %(N6,079,200) of Annual Basic Salary will be paid once in every four years. The allowance will be paid annually at the rate of 75% (N1,519,800) of Annual Basic salary.

“Motor Vehicle Fuelling Maintenance Allowance. 75% of Annual Basic Salary (N1,519,800) for the maintenance of your vehicle(s) as Government no longer provides chauffeur driven vehicles to Political Office Holders/Public Officers for house to office running.

“Annual Leave (30 calendar days for each leave year or calculated on pro-rata basis, with 10% of Annual Basic Salary(N202,640) as leave grant); Personal Assistant Allowance (25% of Annual Basic salary to enable you to employ a Personal Assistant of your choice).”

Investigation however revealed that some of the ministers were uncomfortable with the salary and allowance package because it might not be able to pick their bills.

The package has caused rumbles in the cabinet because while Nigerian ministers earn $8, 514.28 Per Annum (N2,026,400), their counterparts in Ghana are on $50,000 (N11,900,000) and those in South Africa (the highest paying in the continent) were said to be taking home about $302,521 per annum.

A reliable source said: “Most ministers have been sad since they received their letters of appointment because the salary and allowance package was a far cry from where they were coming from. We hope that ministers will eventually not steal if they have to serve this nation on hungry stomach.

“We have ministers in this government who left high-net worth job of $10,000 to $20,000 per month, how will they settle their bills? Some ministers have headed corporate. You can imagine a minister managing about $3billion portfolio now getting $8,521 per Annum.

“Some ministers have children in Ivy League universities where they are paying as much as $40,000 to $60,000 per annum. How will they be able to cope to meet up with their responsibilities?”

As at press time, it was unclear if the ministers had made representation to the president or not.

“Curiously, we have some Executive Secretaries, Directors-General and Group Managing Directors of parastatals like NNPC, PPMC, NCC, NDIC, PEF, PPPRA, DPR, NERC, NIGCOMSAT, and others who will be earning more than their ministers. I think the system is distorted somehow.”

Another source added: “To earn commensurate salaries and allowances, the president can explore foreign donors’ basket for payment of ministers. Or else, it will be difficult to get the best from this team.

“Alternatively, there might be scientific corruption in Buhari’s cabinet. This is the type of corruption we call ‘chop and clean mouth.’

Football: English Premier League Set To Reduce Clubs to 18 Per Season

By     No comments:
image

The Football Association is reportedly set for talks with the Premier League over reducing the number of teams involved in England’s top flight.
FA chairman Greg Dyke – who is responsible for finding ways to improve the national team – is behind the plot.
The Times report that Dyke plans to speak to Premier League chief executive Richard Scudamore about cutting the division down by two teams.
That would, however, have a knock-on effect on the tiers below. So, representatives from the Championship, League One and League Two would also need to be consulted.
The size of England’s top flight last changed in 1992 an extra team was relegated from the Premier League and one fewer was promoted to reduce the number from 22 to 20.
Any move to carry out this plan is likely to be met by huge opposition from clubs in the country’s top two tiers, while the effect it would have on the hopes of the national team are debatable.
The idea is that with fewer games to play England’s stars will be less tired by the time competitions come around.
But current broadcasting contracts run until 2019 so any deal would be unlikely before then.

Whatsapp Rolls Out New Features

By     No comments:

WhatsApp has rolled out a big update for the messenger app for Android phones. It brings a host of new features, including starred messages, link preview and the option to chat in Urdu and Bengali.

  • Starred messages

This allows users to bookmark messages in an ongoing chat by doing a long press over it. A star icon will appear on the chat, which means the chat has been saved in a separate category called starred messages, making it easier to find these messages later. The feature was already available on the iOS app and has now been rolled out for Android devices.

  • Rich preview

This feature shows more than just a link shared by or received by the user. It shows an image pulled from the link along with the headline followed by one or two lines from the story—just like the way Facebook does. The image preview is a bit erratic and shows only when the Wi-Fi or 3G speed is good.

  • Android Direct share support

WhatsApp is now compatible with the Android Direct Share feature, which means a user can select a specific chat or a group right from the page they want to share. The most recent chats would automatically show up on this page than just the WhatsApp icon. Earlier the user had to enter the app to select the chat or group. This feature is available only on phones running Android 6.0 (Marshmallow), which is available on Google’s Nexus range of devices, including Nexus 5, Nexus 6, Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P, and the Moto X Style.

Navy Arrests Boat With 400 Truckload Of Stolen Crude Oil

By     No comments:

THE Nigerian Navy in the Delta state has arrested a self propelled barge loaded with estimated 4000metric tonnes, equivalent of 400 truck load of suspected crude oil in what the Central Naval Command, CNC, described as “a big break in the fight against oil theft” in the Niger Delta.

Flag Officer Commanding, FOC, CNC, Rear Admiral Apochi Suleiman who briefed the press Friday at the Nigeria Navy Ship, NNS Delta in Warri said the boat, MT Camille, was caught November 15 along with 11 man crew in Forcados waters where Shell operates an oil terminal.

Apochi said, “The crew captain is making serious confessional statement, but this is such a big break that we can’t let the details out now so as not to compromise the investigation. We have informed the oil majors operating in the area too.

“No ordinary person can put a 400 trucks capacity crude oil stealing boats on the river. This is a big break. We will get to the bottom of this and get the kingpins, working with other relevant stakeholders.”

The crew members were paraded by the Commander, NNS Delta, Commodore Raimi Mohammed who said they would be handed to relevant agency for further investigation and prosecution.

The crew captain whose name was withheld claimed they were sailing on a voyage from Thelma, Ghanna to Cameroon, adding that the boat was at the Forcados Rivers to get fuel and food when it was allegedly hijacked by gunmen who deployed them for the oil theft.

Kylie Jenner and Tyga are still together but are no longer living together. E! News reports that a source said that Tyga moved out of Kylie's $2.7 mansion in Calabasas on Friday.
Kylie confirmed on The Ellen DeGeneres Show on Thursday that they're not broken up. Tyga joined her family for Thanksgiving on Thursday.

"Tyga was going to stay there until his house was ready," the source said. "They lived together for about a month. He was thinking about moving out anyway because he likes his own space. But then she started that 'needing her space' stuff and he decided to leave earlier."
Another insider had told E! News last week that the reality star "wants time to just be by herself and do her," while "Tyga is not giving up, as that's his one and only lady."

Naira Depreciates Barely 48 Hours After It Strengthened Against The Dollar

By     No comments:

The naira on Friday depreciated at the parallel market barely 48 hours after it strengthened against the dollar.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the naira lost N2 to exchange at N242 to the dollar, as against its previous value of N240.

Meanwhile, the official inter-bank rate remained at N197 to the dollar.

Traders at the market said that in spite of the biweekly sale of forex to Bureaux de Change (BDC’s), the currency of the biggest economy in Africa continued to slide.

They attributed the development to the difficulty encountered by some BDC operators in disposing their forex due to the apex banks regulation on forex sales.

Kogi lawmakers back Audu's son, threaten to impeach any substituted candidate

By     No comments:

APC Lawmakers in the Kogi state House of Assembly have thrown their weight behind the candidacy of Mohammed Audu pictured above, son of Late Prince Abubakar Audu, in the state supplementary election and have also threatened to impeach any candidate chosen to replace Mohammed in the December 6th supplementary election.

The Lawmakers made their position known after a meeting at the party secretariat in Abuja today November 27th.

One of the Lawmakers Momoh Rabiu, who spoke on behalf of the others said
"Based on our discussion, we have taken a decision and taken our resolution to the national chairman. We are overwhelmed by the response from them, but we are still waiting for a safe landing so that Kogi will not be doomed. We told the national chairman that on no account should anybody be smuggled in to occupy that position which we worked for in conjunction with the late Audu, without who there would be no APC in Kogi State today. We presented to the national leadership Prince Mohammed Audu to replace his late father. It is not because he is the first son, but try him, he is very intelligent and equal to the task. With him, we will have the Kogi of our dream. We are the legislators and have told the national chairman our position that in any case anybody emerges contrary to what we present to them, we know the best way to remove him. It is not a threat, but we told them that we have no intention of washing our dirty linen in public. Removing somebody is just a two-minute job for us as lawmakers in the state. We want the change we worked for and we want Kogi to be part of the moving train. We are not asking Faleke to stay away from the ticket. We equally worked with him during the campaigns. What we are saying is that it should be Mohammed Audu/Faleke ticket. The two of them must work together," he said

OLISA METUH Celebrates 50th birthday at IDP Camp (pics)

By     No comments:

The National Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Chief
Olisa Metuh turns 50 on Saturday, November 28,
2015.
Instead of declaring a society birthday party in a
five star arena, Chief Metuh chose to share with
the downtrodden and less privileged.
On Friday, November 27, 2015, he took his lovely
wife, friends and relations to Internally Displaced
Persons (IDPs) camp in Wassa, Abuja where he
shared meals with the IDPs and handed over
loads of various food items, including grains,
beverages and drinks to them.
During the celebration, Chief Metuh took out time
to visit various homes in the camp, where he met
with families. He was deeply touched by their
deplorable condition, especially the absence of
basic amenities like drinking water, which
prompted him to pledge to collaborate with
relevant government agencies to provide potable
water in the camp.
The overjoyed IDPs sang and cut the birthday
cake with the PDP spokesman.Speaking at the
event, the National Emergency Management
Agency (NEMA) IDP Relief Coordinator for the
FCT, Mrs. Amina Hassan, commended Chief
Metuh for his
gesture, which she described as the largest
intervention from an individual to the IDPs.
