Babangida Reacts To Chibok Girls Release

By     No comments:

In a statement through Mahmud Abdullahi, the Former Military President popularly known as IBB, said it was a thing of joy for the girls to have been reunited with their families after being taken away in such painfully and abrupt manner for over two and half years.

He noted that the release of the 21 girls signalled a hope, after such moments of despair that the abduction of over 200 Schools girls brought to their families, the entire country and the global community.

Hasten Negotiations

General Babangida stated that it was gratifying to see the release of 21 of the girls, after delicate negotiations with the Boko Haram saying that “it is an indication that President Muhammadu Buhari’s government is committed to ensuring safe release of the girls”.

He further applauded the effort of President Buhari and the resilience showed thus far on the release of abducted Chibok school girls despite the general lethargy and dampening spirit caused by the mode of operation of the deadly group.

He also, urged the, Federal Government, security agents and other partners to hasten negotiations to free the remaining girls and rehabilitate them from psychological trauma they might have encountered in the last two and half years.

The former military President reaffirmed his belief in the professional capability of the Nigerian Armed Forces and other security agencies in ensuring that they put an end to the activities of the Boko Haram sect in the northeast completely.

He maintained that the Nigerian Armed Forces had the training and the professional background to end all forms of security threat to the nation such as kidnappings, armed robbery, cattle rustling, farmers-herders clashes and other forms of vandalism.

The former Nigerian leader also called on all Nigerians to offer all forms of assistance to the released Chibok girls in order to overcome the mental, physical and psychological trauma they have gone through over the past two and half.

The Nigerian government had promised to immediately rehabilitate the released girls.

Boko Haram Sets New Conditions To Free 83 More Chibok Girls

By     No comments:

*Group may demand ransom, swap of 16 detained top commanders
*Office of National Security Adviser: Terrorism has overstretched security agencies
*No disquiet in the military over sect leaders in detention – DHQ
*UN Secretary General hails 21 girls’ release

As negotiations for the expected next phase of the release of 83 Chibok girls begins this week, there were indications, last night, that the leadership of the Boko Haram sect might table two major conditions to be met by the Federal Government to seal the deal.

A source close to the negotiations confided in Sunday Vanguard that unlike the 21 girls, who were freed by the sect, last Thursday, to test government’s level of commitment and sincerity, the release of the remaining girls may be based strictly on ransom payment and freedom for no fewer than 16 of Boko Haram commanders by the government. The government, it was learnt, was eager to get the remaining 83 girls, reportedly held by a top leader of the sect in an undisclosed location in the North East. Of the 219 girls still missing, a source said that only 104 were left in the captivity of the sect while the rest had long been married off by top commanders and converted to Islam.

“The truth is that those Chibok girls are now Boko Haram members, having married the sect members and become radicalised,” the source said. “The remaining 83 girls are with a top leader of Boko Haram and those are the only ones we are going to work for their release in the next phase of our negotiations which starts immediately. “

The others had since become Boko Haram members, having been married off and radicalised into Boko Haram as soon as they were captured over two years ago”. But Sunday Vanguard learnt that the representatives of the sect, who are meeting with a Federal Government team, might insist on payment upfront of huge cash by government before freeing the captives.

“I think the guys are settled on the idea that the cash must come ahead of the release since they had proved to government that they are reliable by releasing the 21 girls, last week, without many conditions attached”, the source stated. Asked if the sect leaders were unsure of government’s sincerity to keep its own side of the bargain, the source said that the representatives of Boko Haram had also shown that they have confidence in government. It was learnt that the lingering challenge in getting back all the girls arose from the fact that while some of them are with a faction loyal to Benawhi, the rest are being kept by the group loyal to Abubakar Shekau. But one of the negotiators believed the remaining 83 girls would be freed if a meaningful deal is struck between the sect and the Federal Government.

Threats Meanwhile, the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) has said that threats posed by terrorism and violent extremism in parts of Nigeria have not only stretched law enforcement agencies but have also exposed the gap in the nation’s capacity to deal with asymmetric warfare.” Coordinator of the National Counter-Terrorism Center (CTC) in ONSA, Commodore Yem Musa, who stated this in at a one-day ‘Strategic Communication Analytical Technique Exercise’ in Abuja, said that violent extremist groups were more adapted to using strategic communication than government.

“Through this exercise, we will explore how strategic communication must be a first order capability in the armed forces, law enforcement and intelligence agencies as well as strategic MDAs of government”, Musa said. Musa explained that the nature of asymmetric warfare and the liberalization of information access through the social media has made it imperative for any state actor serious about its national security to develop efficient and effective use of Strategic Communication. He noted that the threat from terrorists, insurgent groups and other non-state actors in the country, has called for enhanced capacity and holistic measures to deal with the emerging security challenges.

The CTC boss however, expressed regret that whereas the non-state actors in the country have perfected effective use of the social media, Information and Communication Technology (ICT) to deadly effect, the government is still playing a catch-up role. He said: “The increasing discourse on strategic communication among stakeholders in Nigeria can be linked to the growing body of research on, and practice of counter-terrorism laws, policies and strategy.

This, too, is as a result of a new kind of threat hitherto unknown to us. Musa informed stakeholders at the exercise that “strategic communication is a crucial and relevant tool for counter terrorism and counter insurgency and permeates all governance structures and enhance national security and well-being”. At the end of the exercise, participants agreed on the need to develop a common lexicon on strategic communication across MDAs in Nigeria.

Remaining captives must be free – UN Secretary General

In a related development, United Nations Secretary General, Mr. Ban Ki-moon, yesterday, commended the efforts of the Federal Government that paid off with the release of the 21 Chibok girls on Thursday. A statement from the UN Secretariat in New York stated that the Secretary-General also called on the international community to assist Nigeria in securing the release of the remaining girls from Boko Haram’s grip.

The statement read: “The Secretary-General welcomes the reported release of 21 Chibok schoolgirls, following more than two years of captivity.

“He remains deeply concerned about the safety and well-being of the remaining schoolgirls and other victims of abduction by Boko Haram, who are still in captivity. “The Secretary-General urges the international community to continue supporting the government of Nigeria in its efforts to secure their release, rehabilitation and reintegration.

“He calls for increased efforts to ensure additional humanitarian access in the north-east of Nigeria, and reiterates the continued commitment of the United Nations in this regard.

“The Special Representative of the Secretary-General for West Africa and the Sahel, in his capacity as High Representative for Nigeria, continues to engage with the Nigerian authorities and international partners on this matter.”

Ex- IMO State Beauty Queen Slapped And Humiliated By An Army Officer

By     No comments:

Immediate past Miss Imo State Queen, Stephenie Korie was yesterday night humiliated by undressed army man at a graduation party of her friends.

Read her reaction and the full gist below:

"Nigeria has turned to something else where men treat women with no respect. I'm so disappointed with our military;  they treat women with no respect . I've been hearing stuffs about the things they  do in Aba, Abia States but didn't believe until it happened to me tonight . I actually went to my friends graduation party with my younger sis  in my school, when all of a sudden some guys started fighting. I wasn't comfortable so we had to go out and we where about leaving when a guy approached me ( army officer not dressed in his uniform )  and asked me of the people with us; I was surprised because I was invited and didn't know much people in the party. But I didn't answer him then ,he told me he would slap me if I don't tell him. I was surprised and asked him why? Before I could recall what was happening he gave me a dirty slap. Now I'm wondering; do men go about slapping  any female they see? or the men in our country have lost the respect they have for women? It is a big shame for a soldier in the Nigerian  army to act with such irresponsible behaviour. And when he was asked why he did what he did, his reply was "do you know who I am" #StandAgainstMilitaryIntimidation #MenShouldNotHitWomenForNoReason #TheMilitaryShouldProtectAndNotIntimidateOurWomen‎"

Presidency Mounts Pressure On BBC Hausa Service Not To Broadcast Aisha Buhari’s Revealing Interview

By     No comments:
aisha

The BBC Hausa Service is under intense pressure from President Buhari and members of his cabinet not to air the recent interview granted by his wife, Aisha Buhari, which is due for broadcast on Saturday, according to Sahara Reporters.
Buhari is said to have reached out to his wife, who is currently in London, to stop granting further interviews to the media.

In excerpts that have been widely reported in the media, Mrs. Buhari is quoted as saying that the President had ditched those who really worked for his victory in the 2015 election and is instead focusing on those that didn’t participate.

The First Lady also said the President did not know a majority of his ministers before appointing them to office and expressed her concern that certain individuals are creating division within the party.
“What I am afraid for them is the rebellion of 15 million people,” says Mrs. Buhari at the end of the excerpt available to the public.

License Illegal Refineries - Rep Ehiozuwa Agbonayinma Tells FG

By     No comments:

A member of the House of Representatives, Mr. Ehiozuwa Agbonayinma, has said that instead of destroying illegal refineries in the Niger Delta, the Federal Government should license and regulate them.

He told the News Agency of Nigeria in Abuja on Thursday that the government should leverage on the skills of operators of the refineries to develop small outlets for refining crude oil for domestic use.

Agbonayinma, who represents Egor/Ikpoba-Okha Constituency of EdoState, said his advice became necessary because the persons given licences to build refineries by previous administrations had failed to do so.

He said the number of illegal refineries being destroyed and the rate at which they resurfaced had shown that the operators had some engineering skills that government should harness.

He said, “The activities of illegal refinery operators should be regulated, licences should be issued to them and crude oil allocated to them based on their capacities.

“In the civilised countries, what to do is to bring all those youths and look for a way to harness their brains rather than destroy the refineries.

“They are doing what government cannot do by consistently refining crude oil into petroleum products; they deserve to be assembled and encouraged to do it better, under regulations.”

Aisha Buhari's Controversal Interview With BBC Hausa (Full Text)

By     No comments:

This is the full text from the interview of First Lady of Nigeria, Aisha Buhari, by BBC Hausa Service:

BBC Hausa: It has been One and a half years since President Muhammadu Buhari came into power, a lot of people are expressing their unhappiness over the way few acquaintance of the President have hijacked power while neglecting people that work for his success. Like we have promised, here is how the interview with Aisha Buhari and Naziru Maka’ilu from Abuja goes.

BBC Hausa: People have goodwill towards President Muhammadu Buhari, especially looking at the things he did before, but since coming into power things have not been working the way they should, what do you thing is the cause?

Aisha Buhari: I am not a government official, but in my opinion as a woman, a mother, what I think is it is well known that the first 4 years are not going to be easy. Firstly, it was people that brought the government into power. More than half of those people are not appointed into the government. Some people that are not politicians, not professionals were brought into the government. They don’t even know what we said we want and what we don’t during the campaign. They even come out and say to people we are not politicians, but they are occupying the offices meant for politicians. Some have parted with their wives, some lost their children lost, some women too have parted with their husbands because of politics, a lot happened during the time. The way things are going I too I am not happy. We are just starting, we have not finished. Some people that worked for the government have been appointed. But those heading government agencies you can find one fighting his state governor, they contested together during election one in APC while in PDP.

BBC Hausa: Who are those doing these kinds of things?

Aisha Buhari: Everybody knows them. Those people should know that people voted singly. Even Buhari too had one vote. Nobody voted 5 times. 15.429 Million People. That one that people are thinking too, he had only some 2 or 3 people. I am pleading to them to have the people at heart and embrace everybody so that we can all move together. Not even now in 2016 or 17, lot of people are creating divisions within the APC, which is our source of concern. They think they have worked for the government while those appointed some of them had no voter’s card. What I fear is uprising of 15.4 million people.

BBC Hausa: Is the President aware some people are subverting his government?

Aisha Buhari: Whether he knows or he do not, those that voted for him knows.

BBC Hausa: But you are the most closest to him, did you tell him?

Aisha Buhari: There is nothing I can tell him, he is seeing things himself. Out of the people he has appointed, take 50, 45 of them I don’t know them. Perhaps he doesn’t know them too. I have been living with him for 27 years.

BBC Hausa: Do you think there are some people that are dictating to the President things to do, not him?

Aisha Buhari: That is what I am saying, those that know they don’t have voters card, they should give chance to those that have, they are the ones that struggled and knows what we want to do. Some of them if you go to a meeting with them they will tell you, we are not politicians, if somebody is wise, they will not accept to take any political office. They didn’t even work for it. Even if you are asked to, you should say it is not my profession. Those places not headed by politicians will cause people discontent.

BBC Hausa: One would wonder to hear you say some people have hijacked the government without him knowing, but who do you think are those people?

Aisha Buhari: I don’t know them, I don’t know them. I don’t know them

BBC Hausa: But some people are calling names, saying 2 or 3 are the ones, do you that as well?

Aisha Buhari: Yes I agree. Because of those appointed apart from Fashola, Ameachi and some others, not much, I don’t know them, most of us too don’t know them, and he too does not know them

BBC Hausa: One would wonder that Buhari is not the one charge knowing him as a person who had leadership experiences, people would not believe

Aisha Buhari: Yes it is surprising; nobody thought it is going to be like this. But now that it is so…sometimes when one is doing something wrong without him knowing, but when people talk to them, they should listen. Because in the future, whether he is going to contest or not, it is that same people that would vote for APC. We hope those people don’t come back, and everybody don’t hope so too

BBC Hausa: You said “Whether he is going to contest in the future or not”, has he disclose it to you whether he is standing or not?

Aisha Buhari: He didn’t tell me, but I have made up my mind

FG Demands Immediate Release Of Detained Nigerian Students In Turkey

By     No comments:
fg-nigeria-620x400

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Wednesday said it was determined to ensure cases of Nigerian students experiencing different forms of maltreatment in Turkey and elsewhere are urgently addressed.
The Ministry’s Spokesperson, Mr Clement Aduku, disclosed this in a statement made available to newsmen in Abuja.
Aduku was reacting to a report that the Federal Government had not taken appropriate actions to protect the welfare of Nigerian students in Turkey caught up in its post-coup situation.
He said that contrary to the report, the leadership of the Ministry had taken series of proactive steps to adequately address the situation.
“The Ministry wishes to assure Nigerians that its leadership has ensured that adequate steps were taken here in Nigeria and in Turkey to uphold the well being of Nigerian students in Turkey.
“The Ambassador of Turkey in Nigeria was summoned to the Ministry on three separate occasions during which the request for the closure of Turkish Schools was flatly rejected.
“The Ministry also rejected the option of returning students to Nigeria to obtain fresh Visas to enable them continue in the schools to which they have been transferred,” he said.
According to him, the Federal Government, in addition to that, demanded immediate release of detained Nigerian students in Turkey.
He stated that this position was strongly conveyed by the Charge d’Affaires of Nigeria in Ankara to the competent Turkish authorities, who had been working diligently to this end as well.
“At this point virtually all the students have been released with the demand for fresh Visas dropped as to allow the students continue with their studies unhindered,” he said.

Patience Jonathan Will Never Go Scot Free – EFCC

By     No comments:
patience-jonathan-magu
A group, the Human Rights Defenders and Advocacy Centre, HRDAC, has asked the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to change its name and slogan from ‘Nobody is above the law’, since its could not probe and prosecute Patience Jonathan the wife of ex-President Goodluck Jonathan.
This came as the EFCC said that ‘Patience Jonathan will never go scot-free if she is found wanting or any other person no matter how highly placed he or she is.’
EFCC boss Magu and Patience Jonathan The group in a statement, on Wednesday, title, ‘Demand for arrest, prosecution of Patience Jonathan, probe of APC campaign fund and no more sacred cow in the anti-corruption crusade’ signed by Queen Ameh, and Innocent Agbo during a protest at the EFCC office in Ikoyi, Lagos said the EFCC was selective in its anti-graft war, as its also questioned why Patience Jonathan was still walking freely in spite of the evidence the EFCC said its has against her.
”You have found evidence incriminating Patience Jonathan but we are surprised that Patience Jonathan is still allowed to be walking freely, and even had the audacity to take the EFCC to court to demand the release of her money to her.”
The group also said the EFCC should change its slogan from ‘Nobody is above the law’, since it had found it difficult not to only go after Patience, but the likes of ex-Presidents, including Ibrahim Babangida, Abdusalam Abubakar, Olusegun Obasanjo and Goodluck Jonathan.
Agbo during the protest lamented that “I have been to this same EFCC to bail several people over the issue of N500,000 passing through their accounts innocently. They were invited, they came voluntarily and you people held them.
But we have somebody with our money, $15m which is N6bn, walking freely. On Ibrahim Babangida, Abdusalam Abubakar, Olusegun Obasanjo and Goodluck Jonathan.
Agbo said ‘we have the issue of Badamasi Babangida; it is open knowledge that N12bn gulf money was missing under his regime, nothing is done; we are aware of Obasanjo and the $16bn power funds, you people are not investigating it; we are aware of the petition against Amaechi to the EFCC; we are aware that the APC did not get the funds for its election campaign from only Buhari’s account.
We are aware that you are probing the Peoples Democratic Party, why are you not probing the APC?” he questioned The EFCC Deputy Director of Operations, Mr. Iliyasu Kwarbai, speaking with the protesters vowed that if its investigation uncovers evidence of corruption against the wife of former president Goodluck Jonathan, Patience, she would not be left off the hook and that ‘Nobody is above the law’, “Let me tell you, there is no sacred cow; anybody who is found wanting, who involves himself or herself in corrupt practices will not be spared.
I have received your petition, it is here and what do we do? We go into investigation immediately.
Now we have seen the name of Patience Jonathan; it is here. If she is found wanting, she will never go scot-free.
So also any other person no matter how highly placed he is. “We must sanitise our country and provide a very good environment that people can come and invest in; an economy that is devoid of any economic and financial crime.
So, we are happy to see you here; we have received it and we are going to go into action. I am going to inform my chairman that you were here and that we’ll commence investigation immediately.”

Unclad Lady Dances And Twerks On Top Police Vehecle (Pics)

By     No comments:

A video of a Kenyan girl shaking her big buttocks which look like implants or rather fake has surfaced online. In the video, the girl is busy shaking it and even goes ahead to expose her whole body. It’s not clear why she recorded herself doing such but it seems she was either on a Skype call or was entertaining someone.

But why? In this time and age do people still do such? Do they even think of the aftermath? Will you be proud when your children find your Unclad photos online? Whatever you choose, do it wisely or else one day in life, you will be left embarrassed. Just remember that the internet never forgets.

The incident attracted many passersby, some of whom cheered the plus-size woman, begging her to “give them more”. She did not hesitate. The woman went ahead to entertain the crowd, making it hard for the police to control her.

At first, many thought she was not in her right senses, but witnesses confirmed she was okay. When the scene began, the woman got on the top of the car with help from her neighbours, and sources indicate she did this because she thought her actions would chase the police officers away from the neighbourhood. Onlookers feasted their eyes on the Unclad woman, as others took photos and videos.
