Corruption: EFCC Ready To Re-Open Odili’s Case, Others

By     No comments:
peter-odili

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, is set to reopen the trial of high profile politicians whose corruption cases had either been delayed or put in abeyance as a result of court injunctions.
A top management officer of the EFCC told Vanguard, yesterday, that the commission under the leadership of acting chairman, Ibrahim Magu, was bent on reopening all the corruption cases involving top politicians, who were shielded by the court through perpetual injunctions that had temporarily tied the hands of the commission from prosecuting them.
Top on the list of those whose cases are to be reopened, is former Rivers State Governor, Dr. Peter Odili, who secured a perpetual injunction from a Federal judge barring the EFCC from investigating his eight-year tenure over alleged graft.
Justice Ibrahim Buba had granted a perpetual injunction restraining the EFCC from probing graft allegations its operatives levelled against the former governor.
The commission, however, filed an appeal against the ruling, which was described as strange by legal pundits. But the appeal has not made progress since it was instituted over four years ago.
However, the top EFCC operative vowed in an interview with Vanguard that all stumbling blocks to reopening the cases and similar ones would be removed by the Magu administration at EFCC with a view to bringing the former governor to book.
The top operative said that the new Criminal Justice Administration Act of 2015 has removed the stumbling blocks to prosecuting those who looted the nation’s treasury.
The senior management official of the commission said: “Let it be made clear that the EFCC will go after all cases that are deserving of investigation. There is nothing like perpetual injunctions anymore in our criminal administration justice code.
“We have a duty to investigate all cases since we are empowered by the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to investigate all such corruption-related cases and that is what we are asked to do.
“We are empowered by Section 15 of the new Criminal Justice Administration Act to investigate all cases irrespective of injunctions. We cannot be stopped,” the official said.

It is risky to grant Dasuki, others bail – EFCC tells Court

By     No comments:
Sambo Dasuki (R) along with Malam Bashir Yuguda, Alhaji Attahiru Bafarawa

Rotimi Jacobs (SAN) counsel to the EFCC, told an FCT High Court on Wednesday that considering the gravity of the charges against Sambo Dasuki, Bashir Yuguda, Attahiru Bafarawa and other defendants, it was risky to grant them bail.
Yuguda, former Minister of state for Finance is standing trial alongside Col. Sambo Dasuki (rtd) former National Security Adviser (NSA) and Shuaibu Salisu, former Director of Finance in the office of the NSA.
Also named as defendants in the case were former Governor of Sokoto State, Attahiru Bafarawa, his son Sagir Attahiru and their company Dalhatu Investment Limited.
They were arraigned by the EFCC on a 22-count charge of alleged criminal breach of trust and diversion of public funds amounting to N19.5 billion.
At the resumed hearing of the bail application filed by the defendant lawyers, Jacobs, told the court that going by nature of the charges against them and the proof of evidence, it would be risky to grant them bail.
“If they were granted bail, they may not be available to stand trial because the count in the charge attracts 10 years in prison.
“The tendency for the accused to jump bail is high,” he said.
Jacobs argued that at the time the defendants answered EFCC`s invitation, they were not aware of the gravity of the offences against them.
“My lord, granting them bail will send a wrong signal to the public; it is even a risk to release them because many soldiers had died.
“Their families feel the pains as a result of the actions of the accused persons because N19.5 billion that was meant to buy arms for soldiers to fight insurgency was diverted,” he added.
Jacobs prayed the court to reject all the submissions canvassed by the defence lawyers as they were not fit enough to stand as cogent reason to warrant bail.
He therefore urged the court to refuse the bail application in the interest of justice.
In his argument, counsel to Yuguda, Mr Peter Akpe (SAN), said that the offences which his client was standing trial for were bailable.
He said that his client was granted administrative bail by the EFCC and he did not jump bail.
He therefore urged the court to grant his client bail on most liberal terms.
In his submission, counsel to Dasuki, Mr Ahmed Raji (SAN), said it was discretionary power of a judge to grant bail either on self recognition or in the most liberal terms.
He said that the fact that the prosecution had further investigation to carry out should not deny his client bail.
He therefore urged the court to grant Dasuki bail in self recognition as it was the case in the Federal High Court, Abuja where he was granted bail on self recognition.
On their part, counsel to Bafarawa, his son Sagir and their company Dalhatu Investment Ltd and Salisu unanimously urged the court to admit their clients bail on liberal terms.

D_banj111

Pop star D’banj has explained the allegation of song theft levelled by his music producer DeeVee against rap star Olamide.
DeeVee, in a series of tweets had claimed that Olamide stole a line in his Don’t Stop track from an unreleased D’banj song called Shake It.
Speaking with Naijaloaded on Tuesday, December 15, D’banj said said several musicians come to his house, listen to songs he is recording or recorded and get inspired by it.
He said:-
“I didn’t know about the message from DeeVee but the truth is the truth. My house is open; I have songs you guys have not heard. I have songs that I’m about to release with producers you guys have asked me to work with. From time, anyone can come into my studio and listen to our songs and not just Olamide can come in. To me, it’s not stealing, I see it as inspiration.
“This particular one, this is a line I have been saying for a long time, “Shake it, don’t break it, it took your mama nine months to make it.” I actually heard it from Prince Aremo Oniru. Even Baddo (Olamide) had played about it saying, “Baba if you no use this line I go use am o” but I said I go use am.”
Speaking on his relationship with another Yoruba-lingo rapper, Reminisce, he described the rapper as an artiste he likes for his zeal and hustle.
“Reminisce bad boy o cover mi. Reminisce will be going on tour with me, Timaya will be on the tour, Olu Maintain,” he said.
The pop star Dbanj hosted members of the media in Ikeja, Lagos to a private screening of his soon-to-be-released visual EP An Epic Journey.

Kim Kardashian Calls Her Mum A Bad Mother For Encouraging Sister, Khloe To Be With Lamar Odom

By     No comments:
Kim-Kardashian

World famous Reality TV star, Kim Kardashian has slammed her mum and manager Kris Jenner for encouraging Khloe Kardashian to be with Lamar Odom before he overdosed.
The 35 year old mother of two got into a heated argument with her mum which has been released as a teaser of this week’s episode of Keeping Up With The Kardashians.
[Khloe] talking to Lamar and you saying Lamar deserves a second chance – that is so wrong and that’s being a bad mother!” Kim K yelled at her mother. “You just have a sentimental thing with Lamar, and at some point, you have to get over it. What you did created a bigger stream of problems” she further said.
The KUWTK episode was filmed before Odom’s overdose in October. During this period Khloe was in the process of finalizing her divorce with Odom.
Kris Jenner however fired back at Mrs. Kanye West. “Okay, but you weren’t going to give me the benefit of the doubt. I always want what’s best for daughter” Kris said obviously hurt from her daughter’s comments. The argument continued between mother and daughter.
She’s way out of line to speak to me like this. I would never do anything to intentionally upset my kids, I just love Lamar. And she’s got to respect that too,” said Kris Jenner when she was interviewed on the episode of the reality show.

I Got N100m From PDP, Not Yuguda – Odili

By     No comments:

A former Governor of Rivers State, Dr. Peter Odili, on Tuesday said he got N100million from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the contact and mobilization in the South-South for 2015 elections.

The ex-governor said he did not collect any money from a former Minister of State for Finance, Amb. Bashir Yuguda.

He also said he has never had any dealing with a former National Security Adviser, Mr. Sambo Dasuki.

Odili, who made the clarifications in a statement in Abuja, said the N100million was given to him at the residence of the former National Chairman of PDP, Alh. Adamu Muazu.

He said: “My attention has been drawn to some publications where a former Minister of State (Finance), Mr. Bashir Yuguda was quoted to have said that he allegedly gave me the sum of N100 million, out of the money he purportedly collected from the former National Security Adviser. And I wish to state as follows:

” I decided to personally sign this rebuttal because over the years, I had ignored various spurious and patently false reports against me because I Knew that at the fullness of time, the truth would surely prevail.

” I would have similarly ignored this recent falsehood attributed to Mr. Yuguda but for the fact that the uninformed are beginning to latch on this long – held false and tendentious narrative, hence my decision to rebut this with all vehemence.

” I categorically state with all sense of responsibility that I have never had any dealings, private or business or official, with the former National Security Adviser, so the issue of allegedly collecting N100 million from either the former NSA or Mr. Yuguda does not arise.

“That as part of preparations towards the 2015 elections, the PDP set up contact and mobilisation committees across the six geo – political zones and I was appointed the Chairman of the South – South mobilisation committee.

” Consequent upon this, the party, not the former NSA or Yuguda gave the South -South Committee through me, the sum of N100 million along with other zonal Chairmen, in the house of the National Chairman, Dr. Adamu Muazu, for the assignment.”

The ex-governor said he wrote a report to the leader of the party on how the N100million was disbursed.

Odili said he has evidence of minutes of all the meetings, signatures of all the members and the report of the zonal committee.
