Tompolo: ‘APC Govt Clueless, Fighting Everybody’ - Niger Deltan Patriotic Alliance

By     No comments:

The Niger Deltan Patriotic Alliance, NPDA, has urged the Federal Government to refrain from what it called “the harassment” of High Chief Government Ekpemupolo, a.k.a Tompolo, asserting that“the All Progressives Congress, APC, led administration must realize that it cannot fight everybody at the same time.”Addressing newsmen, on Thursday, in Uyo, the group through its spokesman, Offiong Udo, asserted that “just as we witnessed between 1983 and 1984, our nation is fast disintegrating into a lawless era of arbitrariness and cluelessness powered by an abysmally weakgrasp of what it takes to govern a nation in the modern era.”

Asserting that “it is extremely fool-hardy tobe stuck with Boko Haram in the North-East while opening up new fronts with IPOB, MASSOB, Shiites, Yoruba elders and now Niger Deltan militants at the same time,” the group claimed that “finally, those who claim to be best suited to rule have now exposed themselves as too provincially minded for the challenges of the modern world.”According to the group:

“The present administration appears clueless, just staggering from one missed step to another, utterly incapable of turning around our impending economic woes, and instead, pretending it is doing something by pushing our country into a frightening quagmire of national crisis by fighting everyone that does not agree with it.”

BUHARI REPLIES TRUMP – “I WILL REPATRIATE EVERY SINGLE AMERICAN IN NIGERIA

By     No comments:
Buhari Replies Trump
President Muhammadu Buhari has finally given in to pressure from different quarters by replying the statements made recently by American Presidential Hopeful, Donald Trump concerning Nigerians.

Speaking to journalists in the United Arab Emirates, President Buhari had a simple reply to Donald Trump.
“He says he will pursue all my people out of America. No problem. I wish him well at the forthcoming elections. But if he thinks he can threaten my people, then I don’t think he understands who I am and what I am capable of”. President Buhari told newsmen.
“He should go and ask the family of Umaru Dikko. he should ask the Mossad about me. If he threatens my people, how does he think the Americans in Nigeria will be safe?”
The President went on to issue a warning to all Americans resident in Nigeria, both on temporary and permanent basis.
“I hope all of you are praying this man loses. because if he wins, all of you, from embassy to the streets, will be sent home. And don’t discount the probability that your plane might not land exactly in America. That is all I can say for now”.
Donald Trump could not be reached for comments as at press time. However, Hilary Clinton and Bernie Sanders, both Democratic Hopefuls, and Dr. Ben Carson and Ted Cruz of the GOP, have reached out to President Buhari, reassuring him that if they win, none of Mr. Trump’s threats will come to fruition.

SIM Registration: FG To Sanction Telcos Over Customers’ Harassment

By     No comments:

The federal government has decried the way and manner Nigerians, especially women, are being treated in their bid to comply with the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) directive on the registration of the subscriber identification module (SIM) in use, threatening to deal with erring telecom companies henceforth.

A statement by the special assistant on media to the minister of communications, Mr Adebayo Shittu, Mr Victor Oluwadamilar, said that this has become necessary, following the barrage of compliants by telecoms subscribers across the country.

According to him, “The minister’s office had been inundated with complaints from Nigerians, particularly women in veil, over the way they were being treated, sometimes humiliated, by the workers of telecommunications companies nationwide.

“In some of the complaints, women in pudah were required to remove their veils in public despite requests by such women that a place should be provided for them away from public glare and for only female officials to attend to them. All entreaties by these women failed, rather they were allegedly accused of being Boko Haram agents and refused registration after several altercations ensued in some of the registration centres.”

The minister, who frowned at the development, urged the telecommunications companies involved to accord maximum respect to Nigerian, particularly women, by respecting their feminine nature and religious disposition, moreso since the Nigerian Constitution has guaranteed the right to freedom of thought, conscience, and religion of all citizens and that such right should never be violated by executive or administrative lawlessness, high handedness, and insensitivity.

He noted that Nigerians deserve unreserved apologies from the concerned telecoms companies, saying that it is inhuman and unacceptable to treat Nigerians in such a cruel manner as it is a universal maxim that the right of even minorities are respected worldwide. He, therefore, urged the telecommunications companies to train and retrain their workers on the right and more civilized ways of treating their customers, adding that sanction may be applied against any erring company that refuse to comply with the policy of the Nigerian government under the change agenda of President Muhammadu Buhari.

Dasuki drags FG to ECOWAS court, demands N500m damages

By     No comments:

Following his continued detention despite meeting his bail conditions, former National Security Adviser (NSA), Sambo Dasuki, has filed a suit against the Federal Government before the ECOWAS Court in Abuja and is demanding payment of N500 million damages for alleged rights infringement.

In the suit filed by his lawyer, Robert Emukpoeruo, Dasuki asked the court to declare his continued detention as “unlawful, arbitrary and an egregious violation” of his human rights. Dasuki in the suit also asked the court to declare that the alleged invasion of his Abuja and Sokoto residences on July 16 and 17, 2015 and the “forceful and unlawful seizure” of his properties, “without any lawful order or warrant” constituted a gross violation of his fundamental rights and offended the country’s treaty obligations as a signatory to the listed legal instruments.

No date has been set for hearing of the suit. In a related development, Justice Adeniyi Ademola of the Federal High Court, Abuja yesterday ordered the Federal government to produce him in court on February 16th. Dasuki's lawyer, Joseph Daudu (SAN), told the court that his client was abducted by security agents six weeks ago to an unknown destination. He told Justice Ademola that since the ex-NSA was whisked away, all efforts by his family and his lawyers to access him had been scuttled. Justice Ademola said:
“I am worried that the accused is not here. I do not want to set a bad precedent. Except the court gives express order for the defendant not to be in court, the accused must be brought to court from wherever he is. The accused must be here because I am not sure if what I am doing right now in the absence of the accused is not an illegality. Government and whoever is concerned must endeavour to do the necessary thing. The accused having been formally charged in court, must be produced in court for trial on the appointed days in compliance with the provisions of the law,”

Dasuki’s trial has been fixed for February 16 and 17 before Justice Ademola

God has a hand in Nigeria’s current economic predicament- Oyegun

By     No comments:
National Chairman of APC, John Oyegun, says God has a hand in Nigeria’s current economic challenges. He said this while speaking to a 15-member delegation of an APC support group, Change Agents Foundation (CAF) in Abuja yesterday January 20th.
“I think God has a hand in the current economic predicament of the country. Imagine the sudden fall in the price of crude oil, the mainstay of the Nigerian economy, from its heights in 2014, averaging $112 per barrel down to the current price of $28 per barrel – lower than the $38 per barrel which the proposed 2016 budget is predicated on. It is an object lesson for us. It tells us that we must embrace radical change in our economic model,” he said.
