Korede Bello Opens Up About Dating Zahra Buhari in Recent Interview

By     No comments:

Popular singer, Korede Bello, tells Ademola Olonilua about his career and style. The singer also speaks about the Headies controversy

How do you feel being a recipient of the Headies award?

It shows that God answers prayers and He proved that He was right when He said that we shall always be the head and not the tail. God’s word is beginning to manifest in my life. I feel greatly honoured because I was placed in a category that had other industry heavyweights and musicians that I revere. It is a great privilege and accomplishment to win the Headies and it means that I am on a path to greatness like my boss, Don Jazzy.

Honestly I did not think I would win because my song, Godwin, was put against some of my favourite songs of 2015 but then again, I expected God to win in the situation. I did not plan for it and I was short of words when I was called on the stage. I did not even get to appreciate all the people I wanted to acknowledge. It was when I got off stage that I began to remember some names I should have acknowledged. I appreciate everyone who has been and would be blessed by my songs.

You were also in the category for the contentious Next Rated category that sprang up some controversy. What is your opinion on the drama that happened over that award?

The next rated category is one that is highly rated among singers and being nominated alone is a big deal to me because past winners have done very well for themselves after the awards. However, winning does not guarantee your success or showmanship as a musician. Firstly, I am grateful to the organisers of the award for nominating me and I I’m extremely happy.

Regarding the controversy, Reekado Banks had a good year in 2015 and he is a hard worker. He deserves everything he gets. Kiss Daniel also did very well last year; he had three hit songs last year and some of the songs are my favourite. Lil Kesh, my brother, also had back to back hits last year. It should be a big deal for anyone who was nominated, but it is only one person that would take home the prize. It is a voting category and I guess the fans chose their favourite.

Do you think the whole rancor that sprang up as a result of that award was necessary?

Certain situations spark up spontaneous reactions. I am sure the parties involved in the controversy would be remorseful after the event because nobody wants to be associated with something negative. It was a spur of the moment reaction because we are humans and we have blood running through our veins. We have opinions to express; it is just the way that we pass our opinion that matters.

People have a right to be angry and they have a right to express their opinion. They have a right to defend themselves, their friends, and their songs. I think everybody just wants to be better and they want what is best for their team. That is all I can say.

How come you did not tweet about the incident like some of your label mates?

I am studying Mass Communication at the Nigerian Institute of Journalism. I know better than to speak while a controversy is at its peak. It is better to just keep quiet and let everything play out. I actually tweeted before the event where I wrote that, ‘tonight we celebrate together’, and we actually celebrated together. The best thing to do in moments like that is just to remain at the background and not react to criticism immediately.

What is your reaction to Etcetera’s negative article about your song with Asa?

I don’t think the article was objective. I read the article and Etcetera is a freelance writer who does not speak the opinion of the people. He says what he feels. I have read some of his past articles and they are the same, he says what he thinks and feels is right and I feel everyone has a right to their opinion. Etcetera, being a musician, might feel that there are some certain elements missing in a song, but I see tweets from fans, I hear my song being played across radio stations in Africa and people tell me that they love the song and feel blessed by it. That is all that matters to me. I am not doing music for it to be anaylsed, I am doing music for people to feel blessed and inspired to do great things. I do music for my message to impact on people’s lives and not for people to say that I did not sing a particular note properly or spell a word right. That is not my goal. My goal is to make people happy and as long as people are being blessed by my songs, that is all that matters.

Do you think you can do a song that would be as impactful as Godwin again?

Godwin is a very powerful song but I want to assure my fans that we have recorded some very fantastic songs. We even had song that were ‘Godwin worthy’ before we recorded Godwin. But you can’t deny the fact that there are some elements in Godwin that cuts across all demography. Everyone can relate to the song and you don’t get those kinds of songs easily. Even if you do a song that is better than it, just because some segments of people cannot relate to it, they might feel it is not like Godwin.

Godwin was divinely inspired and it was a God project and I pray God blesses my other projects too.

You tried inventing a dance step for Godwin which many people believe was a flop. Do you agree with them?

It was not a flop and to set the record straight, I did not invent the dance step. I saw a little boy do the dance step on Youtube so I incorporated the dance step. I felt it was a funny dance step and a hilarious way to express oneself.

I also wanted people to talk because it took us a while to release the video. It was a risk that we took because people already had in their mind what they wanted the video to look like. I needed them to talk about something and take their minds away from the fact that we released the video late. I did not invent the dance and I would love to meet the kid someday. I found the memes on the internet hilarious and that meant that more people went to watch the video online. People actually do the dance step especially when I am performing the song. They can relate with it.

How have you been able to cope with schooling?

I know that education is priority and it takes you pass where your talent places you. Education is priority for me and I am making sure that I do my best to come out with good grades. I also want to use my life as an example and inspiration for some other people out there. No matter what your talent is, it is never enough. You need education because the spotlight is only there for a while. It would not be on you forever, not because you are not talented enough but because someone new has to come on board. When times like that come, you fall back to your education.

What inspired your jerry curls hairdo that is fast becoming your trademark?

It has been a while that I have been keeping this jerry curls. The only difference is that now that I am more successful, the hair is curlier. I love Michael Jackson and I decided to imbibe some of his style. I also did the hair to make me different and unique. I want to stand out from the crowd and also make people talk about me. I am sure when people hear jerry curls, the first name that comes to mind is Korede Bello.

The 80s inspired this look, during Michael Jackson’s era. A lot of people had this hairdo during that time. It is a classic and vintage look. Michael Jackson’s own was longer than mine.

You look buffed, how often do you go to the gym?

When the money comes, some physical attributes start to change. I have expansive muscles but I actually do not go to the gym. I just noticed that my body has become more buff but I think it is because of my work. I do a lot of dance rehearsals and by so doing, my muscles get to flex up more. But I do not go to the gym. I just do the basic exercises but dancing alone is enough exercise for me.

When you started your career you were always putting on beads but it seems you have stopped?

I am an African prince and I still wear beads but not as much as I used to except I am trying to pull off a particular look. I am also a Woodin ambassador so most of the time, I wear their fabric and beads go with African fabrics.

What would you never be caught wearing?

I don’t know. I don’t think there is anything I can’t wear. If anything that people don’t like, I probably put it on so that people would talk about it. There is nothing that my consciousness would not permit me to wear except it is socially unaccepted or it is immoral. I also don’t like to look older than my age whenever I dress, I aspire to look simple and elegant.

What is your fashion fetish?

I am not a very tall person so I like to wear outfits that make me look taller than I am. I don’t wear fez caps and snapbacks again because I have to show my jerry curl but sometimes I feel my dressing is not complete without them.

Was there ever a time in your life you prayed to be taller?

Definitely, when I was in school, there was this girl that I liked a lot but she was taller than me so I used to disturb God a lot to make me taller. But I grew up and realised that there is more to life than being tall. I mean some of the greatest people on earth are short people and height has nothing to do with love. If someone truly loves you, your physical attributes won’t matter. Even people that are physically challenged get married. You realise that life is about purpose. You are created the way you are for a purpose and to fulfill someone’s needs and to be a blessing to others. God did not make a mistake creating you the way you are.

What item can’t you leave home without?

That would be my watch and my ring.

What is your most expensive fashion item?

I do not know because I do not check price tags anymore but I think it would be my shoes because I like shoes and I shop for them a lot.

Are you in a relationship?

I get this question a lot on twitter and the truth is that I am single although I have a few crushes. I am very much single and available.

Is it that you haven’t found a girl you like?

It is not about finding a girl that I like but more of priority for me. I feel it is still too early for a relationship and I might get distracted because I am a romantic person and I give all I have to my relationship. Right now, I have a lot on my mind, I have music and I have school, so I am trying to balance that.

Did you ever date DJ Cuppy?

Cuppy is my friend and I love her. There was one that I was with Zahra Buhari as well and people began to speculate. They are my people and that is it.

Foreign Suppliers Blacklist Nigeria, As PH And Kaduna Refinery Closed

By     No comments:

LAGOS — Nigeria’s difficulty to import refined petroleum products, particularly, Premium Motor Spirit, PMS, also known as petrol, has worsened as foreign suppliers have blacklisted Nigeria from further business until such transactions are dollar cash backed. The development is further compounded with the deferment of about 5.4 million litres PMS daily production, as the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, yesterday, announced the shut down of Port Harcourt and Kaduna refineries. The announcement came four days after the plants were closed. The NNPC, in a statement by its Group General Manager, Group Public Affairs Division, Mr. Ohi Alegbe, said the shutdown of the refineries was as a result of crude oil supply challenges arising from the recent attacks on vital crude pipelines by militants in the Niger Delta.

Blacklisting of Nigerian importers

Vanguard exclusively gathered that the blacklisting of Nigerian oil marketers by the foreign suppliers followed the challenges faced by marketers to access foreign exchange due to stringent rules by the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, on foreign exchange transactions. Marketers disclosed that they owe their foreign suppliers in excess of $1.29 billion, even as the marketers were paid only N413 billion in December 2015 for oil subsidies. According to one of the marketers, who spoke in confidence, “yes, government paid us subsidy, but there is no dollar to buy anywhere. The Letters of Credit, LCs, that have matured since 2014 to 2015 are worth $1.29 billion. We are supposed to use the subsidy paid to us to buy the equivalent of what is due to our foreign suppliers, but the banks say there is no dollar. “To show you how bad the situation is, one of us has outstanding matured LC of $75 million, but his banks are only able to provide $1.5 million last week. So how many weeks will it take the banks to offset the outstanding sum for him to be able to pay hiss foreign suppliers? “Remember that what government paid to us was the Naira component of dollar transactions and government is still owes us the outstanding payments on the foreign exchange differentials. This is because when we brought in the products, exchange rate was N165 to $1, but by the time we were paid, it had risen to N197 to $1. “This is why the foreign suppliers have blacklisted us until we are able to pay off our outstanding debts and back future transactions with dollar cash. Also, government did not pay within 45 days under the terms of our agreements, so they still owe us the interests on delayed payments.” Consequently, he disclosed that except for a few marketers, mostly the majors, who already have foreign affiliations, all other marketers have abandoned further importation of petrol until government finds a way around access to foreign exchange.

NNPC to provide dollars

The source further disclosed that in one of the meetings with the Minister of State for Petroleum, the NNPC had promised to provide marketers who were licensed to import products in the first quarter, with dollars to pay for their products, as a way to ease the foreign exchange challenges. He added that it is uncertain that the promise had been fulfilled, as no products had come in yet. However, NNPC’s Alegbe, in a test message response denied any knowledge of such a promise to marketers, saying: “NNPC? Dollars? I’m not aware NNPC made such a promise.” He wondered if perhaps the marketer meant CBN or the Petroleum Products Pricing Regulatory Agency, PPPRA.

PPPRA pricing template

Despite assurances by the NNPC, scepticisms are high over the capacity of the Pipelines and Products Marketing Company, PPMC, to meet about 80 per cent of Nigerians daily PMS consumption demand of 40 million. This is because, according to the marketers, they will be running an average of N7/litre, if they imported products under the PPPRA current PMS pricing template of N86.50/Litre, another reason many of them have abandoned further imports. Another marketer, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, said: “The PPPRA has adjusted the template and fixed ex-depot price at N77/litre, it has pre-determined most of the expenses and other components that make up the price. “When we circulated the new template to our members, we discovered that we will be losing an average of N7/litre if we imported PMS based on that template. So, no marketer can import from a loss situation ab initio. We have made our case known to government and we are waiting for them to respond.” But none of the three PPPRA officials contacted picked their calls or responded to text messages. Source

Biafra Protest at the White House

Africa Business THEIR is reports that there is a huge Biafran rally currently going on in front of the US White House in Washington DC. The rally was described as a protest against the killings of Biafrans by the Buhari led government of Nigeria. The protesters are also calling for the released of what they described as political prisoner Nnamdi Kanu. The protesters also want an Independent Republic of Biafra which they said was re- annexed back to Nigeria in 1970. Yesterday the EU released a statement in support of the Biafran Referendum, and called on the Nigerian government to respect Human Rights of Nigerian citizens which includes peaceful rallies and demonstrations. Find Out What KANU Told Court On 20th

By     No comments:

Nnamdi Kanu's respond to the High COURT JUDGE

"My name is Nnamdi Kanu, am a Biafran, I am not guilty"

''Self determination is a fundamental right and Nigeria is bound to respect it... Nnamdi Kanu is within his right to demand exercise of same, just as Buhari advocates for the recognition of an independent Palestinian and Western Sahara states respectively, same must be allowed to be done by whoever as a people so wishes. All these treason charges against him by many is a mere waste of time and resources. There is no amount of charges in the world, against Kanu that will work, change or stop the struggle because he and his group have been working within the radius of internationally stipulated law for self determination.
Put the agitation to a referendum and see what comes out.''

Full Details: Al-Mustapha Has Finally Revealed how Sani Abacha Died

Full Details: Al-Mustapha Has Finally Revealed how Sani Abacha Died - SPY NIGERIA
“When I got to the bedside of the Head of State, he was already gasping. Ordinarily, I could not just touch him. It was not allowed in our job. But under the situation on ground, I knelt close to him and shouted, “General Sani Abacha, Sir, please grant me permission to touch and carry you.”
Contrary to insinuations, speculations and sad rumours initiated by some sections of the society, I maintain that the sudden collapse of the health system of the late Head of State started previous
day (Sunday, 7th June, 1998) right from the Abuja International Airport.
[This happened] immediately after one of the white security operatives or personnel who accompanied President Yasser Arafat of Palestine shook hands with him (General Abacha).
See full details of the explosive revelations below…
I noticed the change in the countenance of the late Commander-in-Chief and informed the Aide-de-Camp, Lt. Col. Abdallah, accordingly. He, however, advised that we keep a close watch on the Head of State.
Later in the evening of 8th June, 1998, around 6pm; his doctor came around, administered an injection to stabilize him. He was advised to have a short rest. Happily, enough, by 9pm; the Head of State was bouncing and receiving visitors until much later when General Jeremiah Timbut Useni, the then Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, came calling. He was fond of the Head of State.
They were very good friends. They stayed and chatted together till about 3.35am. A friend of the house was with me in my office and as he was bidding me farewell, he came back to inform me that the FCT Minister, General Useni was out of the Head of State’s Guest House within the Villa. I then decided to inform the ADC and other security boys that I would be on my way home to prepare for the early morning event at the International Conference Centre.
At about 5am; the security guards ran to my quarters to inform me that the Head of State was very unstable. At first, I thought it was a coup attempt. Immediately, I prepared myself fully for any eventuality.
As an intelligence officer and the Chief Security Officer to the Head of State for that matter, I devised a means of diverting the attention of the security boys from my escape route by asking my wife to continue chatting with them at the door – she was in the house while the boys were outside. From there, I got to the Guest House of the Head of State before them.
When I got to the bedside of the Head of State, he was already gasping. Ordinarily, I could not just touch him. It was not allowed in our job. But under the situation on ground, I knelt close to him and shouted, “General Sani Abacha, Sir, please grant me permission to touch and carry you.” I again knocked at the stool beside the bed and shouted in the same manner, yet he did not respond. I then realized there was a serious danger.
I immediately called the Head of State’s personal physician, Dr. Wali, who arrived the place under eight minutes from his house. He immediately gave Oga – General Abacha – two doses of injection, one at the heart and another close to his neck. This did not work apparently as the Head of State had turned very cold…
He then told me that the Head of State was dead and nothing could be done after all. I there and then asked the personal physician to remain with the dead body while I dashed home to be fully prepared for the problems that might arise from the incident. As soon as I informed my wife, she collapsed and burst into tears. I secured my house and then ran back.
At that point, the Aide-de-Camp had been contacted by me and we decided that great caution must be taken in handling the grave situation.
Again, I must reiterate that the issue of Abacha dying on top of women was a great lie just as the insinuation that General Sani Abacha ate and died of poisoned apples was equally a wicked lie.
My question is: did Chief M.K.O Abiola die of poisoned apples or did he die on top of women? As I had stated at the Oputa Panel, their deaths were organized. Pure and simple!
It was at this point that I used our special communication gadgets to diplomatically invite the Service Chiefs, Military Governors and some few elements purportedly to a meeting with the Head of State by 9am. at the Council Chamber.
That completed, I also decided to talk to some former leaders of the nation to inform them that
General Sani Abacha would like to meet them by 9am.
Situation became charged however, when one of the Service Chiefs, Lieutenant Gen. Ishaya Rizi
Bamaiyi, who pretended to be with us, suggested he be made the new Head of State after we had
quietly informed him of the death of General Sani Abacha. He even suggested we should allow him
access to Chief Abiola.
We smelt a rat and other heads of security agencies, on hearing this, advised I move Chief Abiola to a safer destination. I managed to do this in spite of the fact that I had been terribly overwhelmed with the crisis at hand.
But then, when some junior officers over-heard the suggestion of one of the Service Chiefs earlier mentioned, it was suggested to me that we should finish all the members of the Provisional Ruling Council and give the general public an excuse that there was a meeting of the PRC during which a shoot-out occurred between some members of the Provisional Ruling Council and the Body Guards to the Head of State.
When I sensed that we would be contending with far more delicate issues than the one on ground, I talked to Generals Buba Marwa and Ibrahim Sabo who both promptly advised us – the junior officers – against any bloodshed. They advised we contact General Ibrahim Babangida (former Military President) who equally advised against any bloodshed but that we should support the most senior officer in the Provisional Ruling Council (PRC) to be the new Head of State.
Since the words of our elders are words of wisdom, we agreed to support General Jeremiah Useni. Along the line, General Bamaiyi lampooned me saying, “Can’t you put two and two together to be four? Has it not occurred to you that General Useni who was the last man with the Head of State might have poisoned him, knowing full well that he was the most senior officer in the PRC?”
Naturally, I became furious with General Useni since General Abacha’s family had earlier on complained severally about the closeness of the two Generals; at that, a decision was taken to storm General Useni’s house with almost a battalion of soldiers to effect his arrest. Again, some heads of security units and agencies, including my wife, advised against the move.
The next most senior person and officer in government was General Abdulsalami Abubakar, who was then the Chief of Defence Staff. We rejected the other Service Chief, who, we believed, was too ambitious and destructive. We settled for General Abubakar and about six of us called him inside a room in the Head of State’s residence to break the news of the death of General Abacha to him.
As a General with vast experience, Abdulsalami Abubakar humbly requested to see and pray for the soul of General Abacha which we allowed.
Do we consider this a mistake?
Because right there, he – Abubakar – went and sat on the seat of the late Head of State. Again, I was very furious. Like I said at the Oputa Panel, if caution was not applied, I would have gunned him down.
The revolution the boys were yearning for would have started right there. The assumption that we could not have succeeded in the revolution was a blatant lie. We were in full control of the State
House and the Brigade of Guards. We had loyal troops in Keffi and in some other areas surrounding the seat of government – Abuja. But I allowed peace to reign because we believed it would create further crises in the country.
We followed the advice of General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida and the wise counsel of some loyal senior officers and jointly agreed that General Abdulsalami Abubakar be installed Head of State, Commander-in-Chief of the Nigerian Armed Forces immediately after the burial of General Sani Abacha in Kano.
It is an irony of history that the same Service Chief who wanted to be Head of State through bloodshed, later instigated the new members of the Provisional Ruling Council against us and branded us killers, termites and all sorts of hopeless names. They planned, arranged our arrest, intimidation and subsequent jungle trial in 1998 and 1999.
These, of course, led to our terrible condition in several prisons and places of confinement.

Family friend sells 3 year old girl for N20,000

By     No comments:
A three-year-old girl, Success Onyeisi was kidnapped from her home on December 22, 2015 and hasn't been seen since then.

The toddler was allegedly kidnapped by a neighbour and supposed family friend, Emmanuel Okpara, who during the search of missing 3 year old, helped the toddler's father,  Godwin Onyeisi, look for the girl, until he was accused by people who saw him with the child about the time she reportedly went missing.

Her father, a commercial motorcyclist said he has spent all his savings, about N60,000, on police investigations and other logistics to no avail.

Based on the accusation, Okpara has been arrested and transferred to the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), Ikeja, where he allegedly confessed that he sold the toddler for N20,000 but didn't say who the buyer was or where he could be located.
The little girl's father, Godwin Onyeisi said:
“The worst part is that he (Okpara) followed me to all the places I went to in search of my daughter, with the same clothe he wore when he kidnapped her.
“He followed me on my motorcycle to all the palaces of the Baales, all the streets and all the police stations we visited, until people who saw him with her about the time she went missing, told us and the police that he was the kidnapper,” Onyeisi said.
He continued:
“My older children went to fetch water at the well in a nearby compound. They went with other children in our yard. So, because we were planning to travel, my wife left Success who was watching cartoon in the room and rushed to the market.
“She was the one who called me  that they have been looking for Success and have not seen her. Initially I didn’t really take her seriously because I did not think anyone will want to harm me or my family.
“When I came back and they have not seen her yet, I started going round the neighbourhood asking questions.
“As we were going round to ask people, the Baales were sending messages through town criers that anyone that saw her should come forward with the information.
“For two days, we went round in search of my daughter and my neighbour was with me all through the period. He was wearing the same red T-shirt that people saw him with while he took my daughter away. But he was following me as if he did not know anything about her disappearance.
“From December 23, we started hearing information that he was seen with my daughter, but I did not believe it because Success is very close to him. I have been very good to his family; I even connected my generator to his house to give them light.
“Whenever my daughter is given  food, she will take it to eat with him. Once we bath her, she will take her clothe to him to wear for her. She usually slept in their house, so I did not want to believe that he was behind her disappearance.

“But three women later came to our house, among the three was a woman he bought bottled water from while he was with my daughter. So, the woman now said he saw him with my daughter and that after drinking from the water, he gave my daughter to drink and they left.

“I still did not believe what they were saying. I told them to stop lying against him until my wife got angry and went and reported to the police that I was also a suspect. That was how I was arrested with him on December 25 and we slept at the station.

“He was still denying it, until the women and all those who saw him with my daughter came to the police station and identified him.

“They even described the clothe he was wearing, which happened to be the same clothe he wore while he was following me about. That was how the police detained him.

“After some days, he confessed that he was the one who took her and that he sold her for N20,000 through somebody else to a man who lives in Okota.

“He said he cannot remember the man and the middle man who took the baby to the buyer usually stayed at a woman’s house here in Coconut.

“I have been going from church to church and they keep telling me that my daughter is alive.

“Okpara should let me know if he has killed my daughter. If my baby is still alive, he should say where she is. How can a man like that kidnap a little girl and since then he doesn’t want to say where she is? Police need to put pressure on him to say where my baby is.

“I have spent all my savings on the investigation of this matter. I have been giving the police money so that the case is not slowed down. Now I don’t even have money to pay for the school fees of my other children,” he said.

The woman in whose house the middleman usually slept was arrested but later released because she knew didn't know anything about the case.

It was gathered that the middleman gave the child to a chief, who handed her over to his prophet for sacrifice.

All the locations mentioned by Okpara have been visited by the police but the child still hasn't been found.

The Police have launched a manhunt for the buyer and the prophet he allegedly gave the child to. The investigation is supposedly still ongoing.

L.A. to pay $24 million to 2 men who spent decades in jail for murders they did not commit

By     No comments:
Los Angeles will pay more than $24 million to two men who spent decades in prison after they were wrongfully convicted of murder, officials said.
Kash Delano Register won his freedom in 2013 after lawyers and students from Loyola Law School doubted a key prosecution witness’s testimony.
He was awarded $16.7 million by the Los Angeles City Council on Tuesday. It is the largest settlement in an individual civil rights case in the city’s history, according to reports.
Bruce Lisker, who was released from prison in 2009 after a Los Angeles Times investigation into his conviction, will walk away with $7.6 million.

Though their cases were unrelated, both men maintained that detectives ignored evidence that proved their innocence.

City Councilman Paul Krekorian told reporters on Tuesday the two cases were the “very unfortunate” result of police misconduct in the past, but did not reflect how the department operates today.
“It’s just regrettable that these two individuals spent the better part of their lives in prison as a result of the inadequacy of the investigations that happened back then,” said Krekorian, who heads the budget committee that weighs settlement payments.
Register, now 55, was arrested and charged in the 1979 armed robbery and murder of Jack Sasson, 78, after eyewitness testimony put him at the scene at the time of the shooting, the Times wrote.

Witness Brenda Anderson reportedly told police she heard gunshots and that she saw Register running from the scene.

Anderson picked him out of a photo lineup, officials said, but her sisters told police that her accounts were untrue.

Despite there being no recovered murder weapon, no fingerprints lifted and Register’s girlfriend’s insistence that he was with her at the time of the shooting, he spent 34 years behind bars for the crime.

Anderson’s sister, Sheila Vanderkam, reportedly testified that she tried to tell a detective that her sister had lied about seeing Register, but the investigator put a finger to his lips, meaning she should stay quiet.

Her other sister, Sharon Anderson, said that she, too, was ignored by police.

Register’s attorneys claimed that Anderson picked out Register under the threat of being prosecuted for credit card forgery and a recent theft if she didn’t choose someone.

Register was finally freed after a fresh examination of his case, spurred on after Vanderkam read many years later that he was still imprisoned. He was ultimately freed in 2013.
“After almost 37 years, I am more than ready to try to put this all behind me and move on with my life,” he told reporters.
Lisker, now 50, also said he was ready to move forward after spending 26 years in prison for the murder of his 66-year-old mother, Dorka.

Though happy to be vindicated, he told the Times:
“How can one place a monetary figure on a lifetime of stolen freedom, of crushed aspirations and a shattered reputation, on my mother’s tragic murder going unsolved and neglected for 33 years and counting? There are no words…”
At the time of the murder, Lisker, who had a reputation for fighting with his mother and a history of drug abuse, told police he saw her lying in the foyer and broke into the home to help her. They did not believe him.
Times investigation in 2005 raised questions about the case against Lisker, pointing to details that showed the murder investigation was "sloppy and incomplete."

During a hearing in federal court challenging Lisker’s conviction, key elements of the prosecution’s case were undermined or disproved, including that a bloody print found in the bathroom was not in fact made by Lisker’s shoes as it was once thought to be.

His attorneys also said that the lead detective ignored evidence that Lisker’s friend may have been a possible suspect.

Since his release, Lisker has married.
