Bill Seeking Increment In Corpers Allowance Passed By House Of Reps

By     No comments:

The House of Representatives, yesterday passed for third reading a Bill for an Act seeking to amend the National Youth Service Corps Act 2004 which will bring about an increment in the allowance earned by Corps members in the country.

The Bill which also seeks to provide mandatory life insurance to Corps members was sponsored by Hon Joan Mrakpor, of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, from Delta State. It was unanimously adopted by members.

Passage of the Bill would enable corps members who have acquired special business skill from the Service to have access to loan.

Mrakpor, while calling on his colleagues to support the passage of the bill, said the essence of the Bill’s amendment was to ensure that the aim of the NYSC scheme was not defeated and it would reduce the number of graduates relying on white collar jobs in the country.

Following its passage, the House referred the Bill to the adhoc committee on constitution review for further legislative input.

Fr Mbaka Removed From His Parish In Enugu & Left Without A Parish

By     No comments:

Rev. Fr. Ejike Mbaka has been transfered from his Parish “Christ The King Parish GRA Enugu” and left without a Parish. IGBERETV gathered that the controversial Priest was given residence at Our Lady Of The Rosary Parish Emene Enugu, 2km away from his Adoration Ministry but not as a Parish Priest.

According to reliable sources, the decision to remove Mbaka is aimed at checkmating his activities which is generating unpleasant wave within the body of Christ and the nation at large. The church decision to transfer all the priests in Enugu Diocese was to dilute any suspicion that such move was aimed at checkmating Fr. Mbaka

Speaking with IGBERETV, another source revealed that the church was afraid of the possible reaction of his followers, who make up more than 80% of the population of Enugu Catholic Diocese.

Commenting on the issue, Rev. Fr. Joseph Offor, the director of social communications of the Diocese, said that there would be general posting and re-posting of priests this year. He added that the Diocese embarks on postings of priests every six years.

The bishop decides who should be posted where; it has nothing to do with a particular individual. It is a routine practice which is done every six years,” he said.

What this means is that Fr. Mbaka has no Parish again and his weekly Wednesday program “Inodey Again” will not be conducted at Christ The King Parish but probably at Adoration Ministry, Umuchigbo Nike Enugu.

Konga Lays Off 10% Of Its Staff

By     No comments:

Nigerian ecommerce marketplace, Konga.com is laying off ten percent of its 800-strong workforce in what it is calling a restructuring exercise.

According to sources familiar with the situation, the layoffs will run across the whole organization. The company expects to reap operational efficiency and business effectiveness gains from the move.

In an emailed statement to TechCabal, a Konga representative said:

“With this restructuring and by taking advantage of new innovations and upcoming retail opportunities in the market space, we are optimistic that we are on the path to grow an even healthier and more sustainable business, whilst delivering best in class service to our customers. The decision to restructure and realign our company’s focus to be more agile in the prevailing local economic conditions is not one that was taken lightly”.

The company says it is offering severance packages to the 80 workers affected by the restructure, and will assist with connecting them to other opportunities that match their competences.

Since 2014, Konga has been steadily reinventing itself as a marketplace rather than the e-tailer it began life as in 2012. Which means that it is taking in less inventory and making use of less warehousing infrastructure while turning its attention to working more with merchants. It stands to reason that the ecommerce startup might require less in-house capacity than it currently has to efficiently run its operations.
Image result for Konga
Macro-economic and market dynamics are also at play as well. Rival ecommerce startup, Jumia, as well as Iroko, and DealDey, effected job cuts in late 2015, a move that we believe is a matter of them pragmatically correcting themselves before the markets correct them.

According to Crunchbase data, Konga has raised an aggregate of $74 million, but internally we believe the true number to be north of $100 million. Revenues grew 450 percent from 2013 to 2014. During its 2015 Yakata Sales, Konga’s CEO Sim Shagaya took to Twitter to announce that Konga processed about N110 million worth of orders in the first four hours.

2016 budget is a carbon copy of Goodluck Jonathan's budget - Charles Soludo

By     No comments:

Prof. Charles Soludo has described the 2016
budget presented by President Buhari as a replica
of the one by former president Goodluck
Jonathan. The former governor of Central Bank of
Nigeria (CBN) stated this while speaking at the
13th Daily Trust Dialogue in Abuja, on Thurs Jan
14.
"The present budget is more of the same to
the previous ones. Mr. Vice President Prof.
Yemi Osinbajo, If you scale your budget on
the scale of GDP, it is almost the same
with the previous government,"
"It has a historic 37% deficit as we never
had it before. The truth is that you are
borrowing 37% with only 30 per cent on
capital projects",
"To craft the new agenda, we must defeat
the old agenda. We cannot make progress
in the country with the tools and agenda of
the old," Soludo said
He added that the APC-led government was over-
following the fall in the price of crude oil globally
and further advised the present administration of
the need to evolve a coherent economic plan and
agenda as well as the right political architecture,
stressing that anything less than this would mean
that the leaders are building on a quicksand.

Video of TB Joshua's meeting with 'Lucifer' goes viral (photos + video)

By     No comments:

This article was written by freelance journalist, Ihechukwu Njoku. Read below...
A YouTube clip showing controversial Nigerian Pastor T.B. Joshua’s dramatic encounter with ‘Lucifer’ has gone viral, amassing over 500,000 views in just one month since its release online. The video titled ‘Face To Face With Lucifer’ shows a peculiar scenario that unfolded in Joshua’s church when a self-professed ‘occult wizard’ came to seek prayers at The Synagogue, Church Of All Nations (SCOAN) in Lagos, Nigeria.
In the clip, an eerily looking man with a menacing black beard introduces himself as Professor Chukwudi Okakpu, an alleged ‘Grand Llama of Science Beyond Material’. Amidst his extraordinary claims, the Satanist professed to have had face to face encounters with ‘Lucifer’ and to have endorsed ‘anti-Christs’ globally. “I can stay here and appear in any part of Europe,” Okakpu, dressed in a flowing white suit, calmly stated, adding that he ‘operates like a spirit’. “If you are such a person that patronises shrines or herbalists, I am the ultimate,” he sensationally claimed.

The video shows Joshua praying for Okakpu who sways uneasily several times before eventually falling to the floor. Several of his ‘followers’ proceed to come out from the crowd and are also prayed for, after which the ‘professor’ renounces his devilish past. Okakpu proceeds to return the following week with some of his ‘occultic’ garments to testify to the changes in his life after ‘accepting Jesus Christ’.

“This is a video satan does not want you to watch,” Emmanuel TV states in its introduction of the clip on YouTube. “A satanic ‘general’ renounces his covenants with devilry and witchcraft in a church service that made hell and its minions quiver!” As with most of Joshua’s videos, the contents have elicited controversy with opposing views as to its authenticity.

Several online commentators insisted Joshua’s deliverance services are nothing more than a scam involving arranged actors while others argue they are genuine and godly. Joshua’s YouTube channel Emmanuel TV, where the clip was uploaded, is the third most subscribed channel in Nigeria with nearly 300,000 subscribers and 110,000,000 views.

Anglicans sanction US Episcopal Church over gay marriage

By     No comments:

Anglican leaders on Thursday temporarily restricted the role of the U.S. Episcopal Church in their global fellowship as a sanction over the American church's acceptance of gay marriage.
Episcopalians have been barred for three years from any policy-setting positions in the Anglican Communion while a task force is formed that will try to reconcile conflicting views over sexuality in the 85-million-member family of churches. The Episcopal Church is the Anglican body in the United States.
The announcement came near the end of a weeklong meeting in Canterbury, England, called by Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby, to heal rifts over same-sex relationships and keep the Anglican Communion from splitting apart. Welby, the Anglican spiritual leader, has set a news conference Friday in Canterbury to explain the leaders' decision.

Episcopal Presiding Bishop Michael Curry, who was installed in office less than three months ago, has been attending the meeting. He told the other leaders their vote "will bring real pain" to gays and lesbians and to Episcopalians "committed to following Jesus in the way of love and being a church that lives that love." Still, he said he was committed to the Anglican family.

New Ebola case emerges in Sierra Leone

By     No comments:

Health officials in Sierra Leone have confirmed a death from Ebola, hours after the World Health Organization declared the West Africa outbreak over.
The country was declared free of the virus on 7 November, and the region as a whole cleared when Liberia was pronounced Ebola-free on Thursday.

But two tests conducted on a boy who died in northern Sierra Leone proved positive for the virus, a health ministry spokesman told the BBC.

It is not clear when the boy died.

Health ministry spokesman Sidi Yahya Tunis told the BBC that the boy had died in the northern Tonkolili district. The tests were conducted by British health experts.
Close to 4,000 people died of Ebola in Sierra Leone, and 11,000 people across the region, since December 2013.

In declaring West Africa clear after the recent outbreak on Thursday, the WHO warned that the area was susceptible to small flare-ups of the virus.

Liberia was the last country to see the end of active transmission of Ebola. But it had been declared clear twice before, only for the infection to re-emerge.

A country is considered free of human-to-human transmission once two 21-day incubation periods have passed since the last known case tested negative for a second time
