Ahmad Ahmad Emerges CAF President

Ahmad Ahmad wins CAF Presidential Election, beating Issa Hayatou who has been in office since 1988.Ahmad got 34 votes out of 54 while Hayatou had only 20.




Ahmed Ahmed is the new president of the Confederation of African Football (CAF). Ahmed, who is from Madagascar beat Cameroonian Issa Hayatou by 34 to 20 votes in the election which held on Thursday at the headquarters of the African Union in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

Before his defeat, Hayatou led CAF for 29 years following his election in 1988.

The surprise result, which was announced Caf’s 39th General Assembly in Addis Ababa, prompted shock and celebration across social media, with many fans, pundits and observers celebrating the departure of the 70-year-old, who has been accused of various controversies during his long stint at the helm.
